My rather pathetic memory prevents me from recalling the correct
origin of the name with certainty but I vaguely remember some bet
with the then incumbent company other name allocator (birkbeck) about
the author of the 'electric kool-aid acid test'. I knew it was Tom
Wolfe as I had just recently started and not bothered to finish
reading 'the kandy-kolored tangerine-flaked streamline baby' (a case
of never judge a book by it's title) and had seen a reference in it
to the other book. birkbeck insisted it was ken kesey who was
actually one of the subject matters of the book. anyway I think it
was common practice to other name somebody based on some vague name
association, real names clearly where taboo, and the discussion about
ken kesey with a newly joined department member named gary casey was
too much to resist.
Fact or bull, you decide.
