AWARDS / SCHOLARSHIP
EMBLEMS REPORT

August 7 & 8, 2008
Omaha, Nebraska

Patti McDowell
West Virginia

With the introduction of the Members Scholarship, the Northeast Area was represented by 2 very deserving applicants.  The two applications meeting all eligibility requirements were received from Callista Little from Pennsylvania and Dawn Pindell from Connecticut.  In its inaugural year, with funds being partially underwritten by J. M. Marketing, $1,000 was available nationwide initially as 1 winner of $200 per area.  However, because there were only five eligible applications, the NASCOE Executive Board approved awarding each of the eligible applicants $200 even though all areas were not represented. Our congratulations go out to Callista & Dawn.

Even though it was a less than stellar year, number-wise, for Distinguished Service Awards in the Northeast Area, I did receive 3 especially deserving nominations in two of the categories.  I also received 1 nomination for Service to NASCOE which was not eligible at this time.  The nominees were:

Darlene Reams, Oakland, Maryland nominated for Service to FSA Agriculture (submitted by Patsy Wiles)
Dawn Pindell, Canterbury, Connecticut nominated for Service to Community (submitted by Patricia Smith)
Doris Ostrowski, Tolland, Connecticut nominated for Service to FSA Agriculture (submitted by Marsha Jette)

Area judges were Lorri Dandignac (NY), Ross Eddy (CT), Kelly Sunday (PA), Phyllis Torrey (VT), and Sandy Truslow (ME).  Their task was to judge each nomination except Ross who excused himself because of his working relationship with Dawn and Doris. Their choices for the 2008 NORTHEAST AREA DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS:

 Community Service:  Dawn Pindell, CT
Service to FSA Agriculture:  Doris Ostrowski, CT

The plaques for the winners, along with the Members Scholarship certificates, were presented at the Northeast Area Rally held in Geneva, New York on April 12th.  Pictured with me below are from the left:  Dawn Pindell, me, and Doris Ostrowski.  The Northeast Area is extremely proud to have another national winner Dawn Pindell for Service to Community.
