Legislative Tips for the NC Homeschool Family
*Know the homeschool law in NC and keep a hard copy available
for ease of access.
*Visit the NC General Assembly web site (links provided in link section) and familiarize yourself with the available features.
Learn how to search for bills of relevance to homeschool families.
*Call for an appointment to meet your local legislators. In a friendly visit, you can share
a little of your own personal story, the positive aspects of homeschooling and the benefits
you have observed in homeschooling your children.
*Consider inviting your local legislator(s) to a local group function to meet a diversity
of homeschoolers in their district.
This can be a photo opportunity and local news article write-up as well.
*Participate in or organize a group visit to the Capitol or a visit/tour of the legislative building.
*The NCGA web site, under "House," provides information on the legislative process in NC;
it's a good supplement to review before a visit.
*Community public relations is equally significant:
-being seen by the public in a positive light
-local newspaper write-ups that include positive representation of homeschooler's diversity of philosophies,
theologies and methodologies.
*Support fellow homeschoolers by sharing, discussing and strategizing with others.
