She is your friend,
your partner,
your defender,
your dog.
You are her life,
her love,
her leader.
She will be yours,
faithful and true,
to the last beat
of her heart.
You owe it to her
to be worthy of
such devotion.

Ode to Yoda
bar

Yoda wasn't just my dog. Yoda was a best friend, close companion, and a great protector too. She was always eager to please me, and more than willing to give me her love and affection. YES, I do believe dogs are capable of that "human" emotion we call "love"! I felt her love whenever she was near me. I miss having Yoda around me now, but I can still feel the love. We had some great times together... Yoda and I, and I will always treasure each and every one of them.

She was half Labrador (that's the half with the floppy ear!) and half shepherd (the ear that stands up!). She truly possessed the traits of both breeds--though I think the Labrador stood out more with her.

Yoda always tried very hard to please me and she really didn't need to work so hard at it because it was a natural for her. She was my shadow, following me everywhere. She was my protector and comfort on those nights when my husband had duty (he was in the Navy), and she was a "babysitter" for my daughters. She was truly a remarkable canine. They didn't come any better.

She loved the sunshine, like most dogs do, but she didn't "complain" about the rain either. There were several occasions when we walked in a parade with the other dog club members, that we ended up coming home wet. Seemed like it was always "raining on our parade," but we still had a good time, and Yoda loved to "perform" for the crowds.

She loved tennis balls! Oh, the number we went through! They were her passion! I hope they have plenty in pet heaven, because when we meet again I know she will have one in her mouth, will bring it to me, and impatiently wait for me to throw it to her again.
