The "Sit" Command

1. Sit on command using a lure:
hold the lure in your right hand. Pretend it is a magnet and your dog's nose is made of metal. Bring your hand close to the dogs nose until the "magnet" begins to grab the "metal." Using a slow, smooth motion, so that you don't break the grip of the magnet, move your hand up and slightly toward the rear of the dog, as if you are trying to point his nose toward the moon. The instant the dog is sitting, you pop the treat/lure into his mouth. Once your dog is doing the sit easily, add the command "sit" as you present the lure and are starting to move the hand movement back and up. By day 2, start asking for several sits before giving the treat and/or lots of praise.

To Place A Dog In The Sit:
Put your right hand on the dog's chest, left hand on the withers (on top of his shoulders, just behind the collar), and quickly stroke your hand down the dog's back, over his tail, and tuck up and forward behind the knees until the dog sits. Be careful not to bend his knees backwards. After the dog sits, give him/her lots of praise.
