team. Finished high school with a 3.7 GPA. These are all characteristic of Chattahoochee senior Jared Gilbert, who was recently recruited to Rice University. Rice is

Gilbert played both running back and linebacker. Gilbert’s career in high school football is marked by success, including 252 career tackles.
He played on the varsity football teams which went to the state playoffs in both his sophomore and junior years. For his outstanding play, he has been awarded numerous
accolades. In his senior year, for instance, he was voted Best Defensive Player in the region, named Player to Watch by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, received the
Coca-Cola Golden Helmet MVP award, and the Best Defensive Player for the DeKalb Memorial Classic.
“I’ve seen him play on the team, and he really carries them,” commented Jarryd McCree, Chattahoochee junior. Gilbert was the team captain of Chattahoochee as a senior. His
team selected him to be the honorary recipient of the Cougar Award, which is given to a team member who displays leadership qualities and overall well-roundedness.
“He is the backbone of our defense and a team leader by example,” commented Coach Bill Waters.
In addition to being a team player and a well-qualified athlete, Gilbert exemplifies the dedicated student. With a GPA of 3.7, he has made the Honor Roll and the All-Region
Academic Team. Additionally, Channel 33 selected him for the Academic Athlete Leadership Award.
Jared Gilbert is well-deserving of the honor of attending one of the nation’s top colleges
with a strong athletic program. His strong finish in high school shows potential for a successful career in football. |
