Adding Additional Lighting

The MSP hasen't taken any lighting away in the last 10 years that I can think of, nor will they. The basics are the use of the roof light, headlights that "wig - wag", and rear flashers alternating from the brakelights to the reverse lights.

The biggest lighting change to occurr within the last few years was the addition of supplimental lights. Most of the accidents involving troopers were from the rear. If you look closely at the picture you will see the addition of Federal Signal red and blue alternating "quad-flash" strobes. As pictured above they give four quick blue flashes, then four quick red flashes. This has been the best thing ever for the MSP. The combination of the pink sweeping light and the strobes really show up at night.

The next leading cause of accidents involve troopers at intersections. Strobes have been added to the outboard mirrors on slick-tops and some of the lighted units. They are mounted right over the cap of the mirror, the placement does not hinder vision at all. The mount makes them point the strobe on an angle of 45 degrees, which is great coverage for the side and intersections.

All of these strobe options are now LED options, with the colors now remaining the same.
