The Shaded Persians are currently accepted in 4 colors (Cameo (red), Cream Cameo, Tortoiseshell & Blue Cream.) Then they are further divided into Shell & Shaded patterns. In the Shell pattern guard hairs are white, with a very small amount of color (red,cream,tortie or blue cream) just on the tips of the hair. The Shaded pattern has a much heavier color tipping on the ends of the hairs.
Due to a special gene (called the Inhibitor gene) combined with the tabby gene (called the Agouti gene), the under coat is white while the top layer of the coat (known as guard hairs) are tipped in a solid color. For more information CLICK on the link below.
