| Percussion instruments are basically instruments which produce sounds when either hit, struck or shaken. These instruments can be subdivided into different sections - pitched and unpitched. Generally, percussion instruments are unable to sustain a long note unless repeatedly played. There are several works which cater specifically for the percussion section of the orchestra, particularly modern works. |
