Date of checkup: 8 June 2002

Big Momma, posing in front of the housing before going out for an afternoon walk.

Can't say I'm impatient about getting out of my cramped quarters yet. Nah, I'd probably stick around for a couple more weeks or so before getting myself evicted. It is indeed getting cramped in here, Mom can actually recognize the bumps on her belly as belonging to different body parts. Instead of sudden jerks and movements, though, all I could manage nowadays is to squirm from side to side. Much to the delight of my parents, of course!

This week's checkup showed that my weight gain for the last week has been: 0 kg. Yep, it seems that I've stopped gaining weight already. The doctor couldn't help but remark that this is good news. Unfortunately, Mom has been steadily gaining weight since last week (a kilo a week, in fact), so she wonders where exactly that extra weight goes. The doctor told her that most of it is due to the swelling in her legs and feet, which unfortunately has been getting worse. Whoa, Mom, maybe you should relax some more and just take it easy! Just a few more weeks. She's been taking lots of walks now, with Dad tagging along. The elders have persistently advised her to take daily walks to help her in the labor process.

You can't hide behind that pole!!!

Oh, now that I don't have any ultrasound images to post here, here's Mom's photo at 37 weeks, taken during one of their daily walks along the parks.

In the know:
While the ossification process has been progressing steadily (cartilage turning into bone), not all of the baby's bones will be ossified by birth. This is an advantage for both of you. The baby's skeleton is more flexible when it contains more cartilage, making the passage through the narrow birth canal easier. Fewer hard bones means fewer hard pokes during delivery.

The total weight of the placenta and supporting membranes at term is 1.5 pounds (672 g). The total weight of the amniotic fluid at term is 2 pounds (896 g).
