About Ms. Friedheim

This is my fifth year teaching first grade at Forest Park, a blue ribbon school known for academic excellence. My teaching style is fun but firm. I aim to build your child's self confidence and promote creativity. I hope to create a comfortable, safe classroom environment to maximize learning. My primary focus is to teach the California First Grade Standards. In addition to this requirement, I'll also teach the Fremont Unified School District's H3 program to develop in your child good social skills, citizenship, integrity, honesty, caring, respect, and problem solving skills, among others. Those students who are learning Mandarin Chinese as a second language will be in my Mandarin class for 3 hours a week, and all my students will hear and repeat numerous Chinese phrases throughout each school day. This year, your child will learn a great deal!

I obtained a California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from California State University East Bay in June 2004 and shortly thereafter was hired to teach at Forest Park. I have a Masters of Science in Information Systems and 8 years experience as a software/web developer. I usually spend my summers working as a software consultant so I can afford to travel. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of San Diego in International Relations with an emphasis on Asian culture, language, and economic development. I've been studying Mandarin Chinese for 16 years including 3 years of an intensive language study program at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei. I have a porfolio of translated documents from 1.5 years as a struggling Chinese-English translator.

Beyond my professional life, I am thrilled to be living here in the Bay Area, the best place on earth! In my years living here, I have enjoyed many activities including hiking, kayaking, peach picking, wine tasting, WNBA games, Oakland Farmer's Market, the Castro, Lake Merritt, Chabot Space and Science Center, and so much more! Other activities I enjoy include reading, writing, traveling, meditating, yoga, swimming, jogging, wine making, dancing, playing keyboard, studying Chinese, discussing philosophy, and creating websites. I have an interest in people from all walks of life and would like to visit every major culture to see how they live.
