Foreign Language Enrichment Program

The Foreign Language Enrichment Program at Forest Park is a unique opportunity for your child to learn or maintain Mandarin Chinese at an early age. Studies show that children absorb and retain language better than teens and adults. It's also well known that learning a foreign language stimulates brain function. And need we mention the big dragon entering the world economy breathing fire?

The Foreign Language Enrichment Program in first grade is run by Ms. Ma and me. Three times a week, I send Room 206 native Mandarin speakers to Ms. Ma's Room 305 and in return, Ms. Ma sends all non-native Mandarin speakers to Room 206. Each class period lasts about an hour. This year, Forest Park will be implementing a new curriculum called Better Chinese but several teachers will include elements from their past curriculum as a supplement to their Chinese program. There is an online account available (possibly mandatory) for students to use at home as a tool to practice Mandarin and have fun while doing so.
