Educational Platform

Here are a few of the things I believe about education.

The Aims of Education

I believe the ultimate goal of education is to guarantee society’s successful existence. It does so by outfitting its members with the mental, physical, psychological, social and spiritual faculties needed to meet the future expectations of that society.

The social significance of
student learning

I believe there are multiple aspects to the social significance of student learning. The first can be seen in the ultimate goal of education as a means to equip members of society for future expectations.
I also believe social variables that make up a given student’s life experiences have a profound impact on his or her ability to learn. Educators must work to establish relationships with students and their families in order to exploit good life experiences and mitigate bad ones.

The image of the learner

I believe the image of the learner is one of highest quality raw ingredients that can be refined, added to and tempered into a final work of art made from strong yet flexible steel.

The value of curriculum

The minimum value of curriculum is realized when it anticipates society’s future needs and it prepares students for changing expectations. The maximum value of curriculum is realized when it does this while being presented with relevance to students' lives.

The image of teacher/educator

I see teachers as eager participants in a process that includes more than themselves and students.
It involves relationships with communities, families, churches, governments and any other influence on a student’s life.

The preferred kind of pedagogy

I believe the preferred pedagogy is one that works.
In other words pedagogy should be continually
challenged and reformed as educators learn more about themselves, the learning process, society and the lives of students.
