Essay #4
It is a difficult and unfair world our there. All across the nation, teacehrs are being treated as unfairly as the homeless. So in order to receive what they most importantly deserve, a nation wide strike just might be held in order to wake the nation up to the growing crisis that faces their schools. But what exactly might cause such a large population of educators to formulate such a strike?
In the poorest areas of society, violence can become a major diffiiculty aimed at teachers. For students and parents alike, it is a mere form of control when violence is concerned. And although unfair and disrespectful as it may be, teachers are afraid for their lives to speak up. The violence could simply be a kindergartner kicking a teacher in the shin, or as serious as a threat on their life. In any case, control on the students and parents must be had rather than the opposite. As important as safety is for students, their must be safety for the teachers as well.
Another important problem are the cut backs in funding and the unreliability of the school system to provide it's teachers with enough resources, tools, and supplies to give the students a quality education. As these resources are minimized, educators lessen the strength are negatively affected. Without the necessary tools, a teacher has absolutely nothing to rely on. And even then, most teachers end up spending their own pay checks on supplies. Or they ask the students for help, such as bringing in boxes of tissue. It should not be up to the teachers to provide these services, but, rather the school system.
Most importantly, however, are the low wages that most teachers receive across the nation. A very good point I heard once was, "Why not pay teachers as much as baseball players?" This could very well be the key complaint among teachers. Although a lot of educators may reason that it is not just the money, but rather, the chance to teach the youth of this world, this is the 21st century. Money means everything today. And since teachers do a fabulous job, they should be rewarded accordingly.
Many othe reasons may exist among the very large population of teachers that inhabit our nation and world. But those listed above are possibly the most superior. But, whether its violence, funding cut backs, or low wages, we must come to a realization that teachers are an important commodity to the youth of the present and the future. They will soon determine how we live.
