The next day, Melody told the others about her new friend Kanai. Sari was happy because she gets to meet a new friend, Pen was a little wary about the fact Melody had told Kanai about the powers unleashing, while Bek�
Bek: ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!
Pen: Shhhh! People will be able to hear you.
Bek: Fine! Well, Melody, what were you thinking?
Mel: -not looking worried or scared in the least- That she looked lonely and maybe she could be helpful in solving our little problem.
Sari: She doesn�t sound bad.
Bek: How do you know if she�s bad or not? She could be a really good actress and be working with Voice. (yes, they refer to him by his power. what else are they gonna call him?)
Pen: -looks at Mel- She has a pretty good point. How do you know she�s a good person and won�t betray us?
Mel: Well, when I woke up in the middle of the night, my sapphire was glowing while she was using her powers�
Bek: Sooo�
Sari: Did it glow when the baddie person used his powers?
Mel: No, it didn�t. That�s what I was saying.
Pen: Maybe the stone can sense between people who are against us using their powers and those who are either against or free of this battle�
Sari: What do you mean by free?
Mel: I think what he means by free is people who we don�t know or they remain on neither side so they won�t be in danger.
Bek: Well, who can we test to see if this theory is true?
Pen: You know, none of us have tried using our powers.
Mel: That�s right! We should try our powers so we know how to use them when the time comes.
Sari: Huh?
Bek: We don�t know how to let the power out.
Mel: It just� pops out.
Sari: -looks even more confused-
Mel: When Kanai used her lightning powers last night, there wasn�t any outside. I mean, there wasn�t even a strong wind�
Bek: Wait, you saw her use some of her power?
Mel: Yeah� and�?
Pen: If she didn�t attack you last night after you saw her powers, then she can�t be that bad�
Bek: Well, let�s see if we can use ours�
There�s a knock at the door. Mel, Pen, Bek, and Sari stare at the door. There�s another knock and they hear a girls� voice.
Person at door: Hey, Mel? Are you in there?
Mel: That would be Kanai� Oops! I told her we would meet her on the deck this morning but I lost track of time! -opens the door- Hi Kanai! I was telling my friends and my sis about you and we got a little side tracked. Sorry!
Kanai: It�s alright. -looks a little paler- Could someone open a window.
Sari: Why?
Kanai: Because! I hate boat rides and the salty air helps my stomach relax. -thinks to herself- I hate little kids� Oh, well, they can help me get home quicker. (my friend who gave me the idea for this character really actually hates little kids. I don�t really mind them too much)
Bek: -pulls Mel aside- Someone�s a little bossy�
Mel: Don�t worry! We need more friends. I�m sure Voice will have a lot of allies. -to everyone else- Ok. We need some introductions! Kanai, this is Bekka�
Bek: I prefer Bek.
Mel: � Penderrin�
Pen: You can call me Pen.
Mel: � and Sari.
Kanai: -looks at Sari-
Sari: Huh? I don�t have a nickname. My name�s too short. Sometimes, though, sissie calls me Sar.
Pen: Sari is Mel�s sister.
Bek: You know, we really should try out our powers�
Kanai: -covers her mouth, turns green, and heads towards the bathroom-
Bek: �while she�s in there, I suppose�
Mel: Okay!
They use a little bit of their power. The symbols on their hands glow and water, fire, earth, and wind comes out of their hands. They do little tricks with the powers, too.
Sari: This is cool, huh sissie?
Mel: Yeah it is. -extinguishes Sari�s fire- Oops! Sorry! -tries to look angelic and innocent-
Sari: Hey!
Bek: We should probably stop� Hey! Looks like what Melody said about last night was true!
Kanai: What was true?
All four look at Kanai, who is wiping her mouth on a towel and looking for something to drink.
Mel: -hands her a water- Last night, the reason I woke up was because someone nearby was using their powers. My sapphire glowed and I went up on deck. That�s when I met you and Sparky. (who doesn�t seem to have a point yet in the story. if I don�t mention him much, just remember he is there)
Kanai: Ohh� interesting�
Mel: -thinks for a sec, then says- How do you know about my element and my brothers�?
Kanai: You have a brother? Who is it? Him? -points at Pen-
Mel+Pen: NO!
Sari: Uh-uh.
Bek: Thank God.
Kanai: Why?
Bek: The two of them, in the same family? Ha! Her mom would go insane!
Sari: Mommy already goes insane sometimes with him just coming over.
Pen: Besides, I don�t look anything like Mel! I�m much better looking. -joking smile on his face-
Kanai: �? Ok� if you say so. So, back to my question, who�s your brother?
Mel: My brother is my twin and has control over the element of ice, Melik.
Kanai: Ahhh� that would make sense�
Bek: Anyway, now that you know why we�re on this boat, why are you? If you don�t like being on boats, why didn�t you go on a plane instead?
Kanai: Because my mom and dad wanted me to be as discreet as possible.
Pen: Ahh�
Mel: Well, the boa should be docking soon, so why don�t you go to your room and pack while we pack here. I noticed you didn�t bring Sparky.
Kanai: I will. And I didn�t bring Sparky because we aren�t supposed to have pets on the boat. Something about it not being hygienic� see ya! Let�s meet at the gift shop at 11:00, when the boat docks.
Mel: Ok. Bye!
Pen+Bek: Bye!
Sari: Bye-bye!
Kanai leaves. Everyone starts to pack except Mel.
Sari: Why aren�t you packing, sissie?
Mel: I packed before she came. But, I noticed you guys hadn�t and decided Kanai probably didn�t pack before she came here.
Pen: Wow! It�s the apocalypse! Melody Star actually noticed something about her surroundings! It�s amazing!
Mel: Hey! Shut up! I pay attention when I need to. We all need to keep our eyes open!
Pen: And now she�s even giving advice!
Mel: Grrr� -kicks Pen in the shins and goes to the other side of the beds- That was uncalled for! I�m never mean to you!
Pen: -hops on one leg for about a minute before saying- Hey! Come back here! -chases Mel around the room-
Mel: -starts laughing and runs away-
Bek+Sari: -watched the entire thing with slightly larger eyes- Stop! We�re going to be late!
Bek: It�s 10:50.
Sari: Besides, didn�t you say before that we should all get along, sissie, and not fight?
Mel+Pen: Fine. We�ll stop.
They leave the room and go to the gift shop. At 11:00 on the dot, Kanai showed up. (my friend also likes to be on time. if she�s not, she goes crazy)
Kanai: Are we ready? Anyone need anything that we can get at the gift shop before we go?
Mel,Bek,+Pen: Yes and no.
Sari: -confused because of the answer but doesn�t say anything-
Kanai: Then, we�re off!
Bek: Ummm� we need to dock first�
Kanai: Oops! Yeah, let�s wait for that!
The boat docks. The second they got off the boat, arguments erupted about which direction to go in.
Kanai: I say we go east.
Sari: Shouldn�t we follow the tracker, sissie?
Kanai: Let�s go east!
Mel: Why east? Why not north?
Kanai: Because! Let�s go east!
Bek: -was watching the exchange- Well, let�s see where Melik is�
Kanai: Let�s go east!
Pen: How about we compromise� what�s that?
They hear some yelling nearby. Mel�s sapphire gently glows.
Sari: Ooooh! It�s glowing again! This means more friends, right?
Mel,Pen,Bek,+Kanai: Huh?
Mel: -looks down- Hey! It is glowing!
Kanai: That�s really pretty! -argument forgotten-
Pen: Well, let�s�
What Pen was about to say was cut before he could even say a word. They hear more yelling and a thud. Melody runs without another word to the source. Everyone stares after her.
Pen+Bek: Melody!
Sari: Sissie!
Kanai: Mel!
They all run after her. Pen, not paying much attention to where he was going, runs into Melody and they both roll down a side street towards where the commotion seems to be coming from.
Everyone else: -runs up- Are you two ok?
Mel: Ow� yeah, no thanks to Pen.
Pen: Ow� sorry. Why�d you stop?
Mel: Look. -points to towards the end of the street-
At the end of the street, there is a girl who looks 12 years old standing over a boy who loks a little like Mel and Sari.
Girl: So, are you going to give me that stone?
Boy: No! This aquamarine was given to me by my mom! I�ll never give it to you!
Girl: So! I want it! It almost appears like it glows!
Mel: -gasps-
Bek: Look! They both have symbols on their hands!
Sari: -takes the piece of paper from Bek�s pocket- Ok! It looks like the girl has shadow. But, I can�t see the boys��
Pen: -looks closely at Melody�s face- I think Mel knows. Mel, hey! Earth to Melody! (it�s almost like trying to wake her up!)
Mel: -thinking- Glowing aquamarine� symbol on his hand� looks like Sari and me� it can�t be�
Kanai: What�s wrong with her?
Pen: -waving his hand in front of Mel�s face. no effect- I don�t know. She�s never quiet. Sometimes, she even talks in her sleep�
Kanai: How would you know?
Pen is spared from answering that question when a girl who appeared to be 10 appeared. (the answer is that Bek is evil and if Mel falls asleep partially on him she won�t help wake Mel up. Bek wants Mel and Pen to get together) She looked between the girl with the shadow mark on her hand and the boy.
New Girl: Hey! Stop being tacky. Oops, sorry, forgot. You can�t, huh Tacky.
Tacky: Oh! It�s Tally Ho to the rescue!
Tally Ho: Stop calling me that, Tacky!
Tacky: Or what? You�ll tell on me?
Tally: Ohhhh! That�s it! -gets ready to attack Tacky- You�ll regret picking on Melik his time!
Pen,Bek,+Sari: -gasp and look at Melody, who is rooted to the spot for once with a dumbstruck look on her face-
Kanai: Wait a second! Isn�t Melik�
Sari: The name of our brother?
Pen: I think so�
Bek: I know so! I can see the symbol on his hand now! It is ice! That�s Melik!
Sari: The newer girl has a symbol on her hand, too! -looks at the paper- Magic!
Tacky: Before I beat the crap out of you two (Tally�s being restrained by Melik), we should see what those people want.
Tally+Melik: Huh? -looks over- Oh! -they walk over to Melody, Pen, Bek, Sari, and Kanai- Hi!
Pen,Bek,Sari,+Kanai: Hello.
Mel: Hi.
Tally: My name�s Tally. What�s your name? -extends her hand to Melody, who looks at it-
Mel: -reaches to accept her hand- My name�s Melody.
Pen: I�m Penderrin. But, you can call me Pen.
Bek: I�m Bekka, but I prefer to be called Bek.
Kanai: My name�s Kanai.
Sari: -looks at Melik, then runs and extends her hand- My name�s Sari.
Melik: -looks at her hand and reaches to accept- My name�s Melik. -looks over at Melody- You look familiar. I don�t know why.
Tacky: You don�t need to hang around with these two. -pushes Tally and Melik out of the way- I�m Takara. -extends her hand towards Kanai, who accepts it- So, what are you guys doing here? And what�s that annoying beeping sound?
Takara was right. There was a beeping noise. They looked at Melody.
Bek: Hey, Mel.
Melody+Melik: What?
Pen: -thinks- That makes sense. They would have the same nickname with their names. - says- Melody. Something�s beeping on you.
Melody: Oh! -takes out the tracker and thinks- Well, looks like I was right� this is my brother�
Melik: -looks at Melody�s sapphire- Hey. That stone around your neck is glowing.
Melody: -looks at him- So is yours.
Everyone steps away from the two.
Takara: Weird. She has a glowing stone, too.
Tally: That is so weird! What are the chances? Are they somehow related?
Sari: -grins- Yup! I�m Melody�s sister.
Takara and Tally stare at Sari, then look at Melody and Melik, who continue to stare at each other.
Tally: Would you go stand to Melody and Melik?
(just to let everyone know, the people who know don�t know how to tell Melik. you can�t just go out and say that sort of thing) The three of them go stand against the wall. There is the same brilliant blue eyes. Melody and Melik have the same facial structure. Melody has long black hair while Sari has long blonde hair and Melik has blonde hair. (yes, that really is possible. blonde hair and black hair are both recessive genes. that�s the only part of biology I could stand)
Takara: Hey! They really look like they could be related!
Tally: Stupid! They are! You can�t deny family, no matter how hard you try, when you look as close as they do.
Melik: -looks at Melody and Sari- Am I related to you two?
Melody: -opens her mouth to say something-
Bek: Why don�t we leave the two Mel�s alone?
Kanai: Good idea! Come, follow me!
Tally: Do you even know where you're going? -Kanai looks at her with a blank look- Didn�t think so. Let�s go to my house. You can come too, Tacky.
Takara: -gives her an evil glare- I�ll come. -goes and stands next to Kanai-
Everyone: Bye! -leaves Melody and Melik alone-
Tally: -turns around- When you�re done talking, come to my house.
Melik: Ok. -turns to face Melody-
Melody: -takes a deep breath and looks him in the eye- Ok. There�s no easy way to tell you this, but we�re related.
Melik: Ok. So, are we cousins or something?
Melody: We�re a bit closer than cousins, Melik.
Melik: Just spit it out
Melody: We�re twins, Melik.
Melik: -stares- What?!
Melody: Our parents separated us at birth to keep our existence and power a secret from people who would want the powers we can and did unleash.
Melik: I think� I need to sit down�
Melody: We should go talk to your foster mother, our cousin.
Melik: -nods- Good idea. Let�s go. -takes her by hand and leads her away-
Meanwhile� Bek, Pen, Sari, and Kanai are explaining everything to Tally and Takara.
Tally: So, what�s up? Why do we have symbols on our hands? What�s the connection between her and him? What�
Takara: Tally Ho, calm down! Let them have a chance to answer!
Tally: Stop calling me that, Tacky!
Kanai: STOP! -Tally and Takara stop trying to pull out each others� hair- Good! Now, Pen, Bek, care to answer their questions? I�m not sure I know what is going on.
Pen: -looks at Bek- Should we tell them the whole story, or the shortened version?
Bek: I�ll tell them. Why don�t you just pay attention to where you're going so you don�t run into anything or anyone again.
Pen: -grumbles- Fine.
Sari: It�s ok, Pen.
Bek: Alright. Two da-
Tally: Why don�t we wait until we get to my house. It�s right there. We can go to my room.
Takara: Won�t your parents get suspicious? Huh, Tally Ho?
Tally: They�re not home right now and will you PLEASE STOP CALLING ME THAT!
Pen: -steps between them- Let�s stop for now, k?
They get to Tally�s house. Outside, there is a man, about 6�2�� with a trench coat and an oversized hat to hide his eyes.
Trench Coat Man: Hello, children. My, do all of you live here?
Tally: No! Only I live here. What do you want?
TCM: I can tell we all have the power here, so let�s skip everything dealing with that. I�m on the side of Voice (Bek and Pen narrow their eyes). Would any of you know where I could find the elements of water and ice?
Takara: -starts to open her mouth to say yes-
Bek: No, I�m sorry. -thinks- Not really, but that�s ok. -says- I don�t know who your talking about. Do any of you?
Pen: Nope.
Sari: Uh-huh.
Kanai: Sorry.
Tally: -shakes her head no-
Takara: I think I saw them, but they left town yesterday if I�m right.
TCM: Alright. Take care. -ruffles hand on the top of Sari�s head- Oh, by the way, follow me if you want to get stronger.
Sari: -gets out from under his hand-
Bek: No, thank you. See ya! -TCM grunts and leaves-
Tally: Well, I�m glad he�s gone. I got a funny feeling around him� so, what�s up?
They go inside and up to Tally�s room.
Bek: Alright. Two days ago, a package arrived for Melody, unmarked and�
Tally: With a message only she could read?
Pen: Yeah! How did you know?
Tally: That�s what happened to Melik. Only, he just got a letter.
Pen: That makes sense�
Sari: -asleep on a bean bag chair in the room-
Pen: At least she didn�t fall asleep on me this time�
Takara,Tally,+Kanai: Huh?
Bek: Sari usually decides it�s naptime and falls asleep on him, using his arm or leg as a pillow.
Tally: Oh, so, what happened next?
Bek: Melody took the sapphire out and said a word. Everything glowed blue, then a different colored light surrounded us.
Takara: Then the symbols appeared on our hands�
Kanai: I know a light surrounded me. How �bout you two?
Tally+Takara: -nod- Yeah� -glare at each other for talking at the same time-
Pen: Then this person who has the power of Voice talked to us. He doesn�t know who Melody and Melik are, so he keeps looking. We left early yesterday morning because a servant of Voice came.
Kanai: That�s why I left early yesterday.
Takara: So what�s the connection between Melody and the loser?
Sari: -awake in a flash-
Sari+Tally: DON�T CALL HIM A LOSER! -they look at each other-
Bek: The connection is Melody and Melik are twins.
Tally+Takara: WHAT!
Tally: Melik has sisters?
Takara: They�re related?
Bek: Yup. We just found out about Melik two days ago. Melody was shocked.
Sari: She was really upset. She even stole my trick.
Kanai: What trick?
Sari: She fell asleep on his arm.
Tally: Wouldn�t Melody and Melik be done talking by now?
They all looked at each other, and race out of Tally�s room. Sari, who didn�t get it, stood with a confused look on her face for a second before racing out of the room after them.
