Power of the Elements of the Stones
Episode 1
Our story begins with Melody Brin Star. At the moment, she is in the middle of class. The bell is about to ring in 10 minutes, and she is...
Teacher: SLEEPING AGAIN!
Melody's bright blue eyes open abruptly and stare in the direction of the shouting. Her friends, Penderrin and Bekka, snicker behind their hands while the teacher is standing over Melody with fire in her eyes.
Teacher: This is the fourth day this week. And how many days have there been this week?
Melody: Ummm... 4?
Teacher: YES! And why have you been falling asleep everyday this week?
Melody: Umm... combination of lack of sleep and... the warm room?
The teacher grumbles and starts muttering to herself. She stomps back to her desk, busying herself with something with the occasional dirty look in Melody's direction. Maybe to calm herself down? Who knows and who really cares!
Melody: -thinking- Why does it matter if I sleep the last 10 minutes of class when it's free time! *sigh* Hopefully something fun will happen today...
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Melody, Penderrin, and Bekka race out of the classroom. (I'm gonna refer to them as Mel, Pen, and Bek from this point)
Bek: You know, one of these days you'll give her a heart attack.
Pen: And that's a bad thing? I mean, no one can stand her, and Mel isn't the only one falling asleep in there.
Mel: Oh, well. Who cares? Let's forget about it and go to my house. Race ya!
Bek: Forget it! I'm not racing. These are brand-new shoes!
Pen: I guess we can't then...
Bek: Got ya! -starts speeding down the road-
Mel: HEY! -starts running after her-
Pen: NO FAIR! YOU GOT HEAD STARTS! -runs after the two-
They get to Melody's house with out incident. When they get there, Melody's sister, Sari, was waiting.
Sari: What took you so long?
Mel: Shut up. Not all of us get picked up from school.
Mel, Bek, and Pen went to the local middle school for 6th grade. Sari went to the elementary school for second grade. Needless to say, Sari got dropped off by the bus.
Sari: Oh, yeah! You got a package today.
Mel: Huh? From who?
Sari: That's what I want to know.
The four of them look at the package.
Mel: That's interesting.
Bek: What is?
Pen: Theres no return address.
Sari: Should we open? I wanna know whats inside!
Mel: Okay. Lets open this thing.
Bek: Do you think we should? I mean, something dangerous could be inside.
Pen: Come on. Lets open it already! Nothing bad can happen. Its too small.
And he was right. The box was only a 2x4x6 package. What could be harmful in that They opened the box. Inside was a bright blue sapphire and a note.
Bek: Interesting
Mel: Whats interesting?
Pen: Ive never seen a sapphire that bright!
Sari: It matches your eye color, sissie.
Bek: What does the note say?
Pen: Its just gibberish. I cant read it.
Mel: -snatches the note- You cant? Its plain English!
Bek: Let me see it. looks at note- I agree with Pen. Its just gibberish.
Sari: Can I see it? looks at note- Are you sure youre not crazy, sissie?
Mel: You mean, you cant read this either? Its plain as day, English!
Pen: Well, then, lets see you read it.
Mel: Fine! takes the letter and reads it- Melody, you dont know me and I dont know you, but you should trust me. Take this sapphire, hold it, and shout out Karvortist." This will make your dreams come true. Oh, and you will find out who I am. Signed, The Mysterious Stranger. PS, You will be the only one able to read this letter. No one else can.
Pen: Well, that explains why we couldnt Hey! Youre sister fell asleep on me!
And Sari was, in fact, asleep on his lap. Melody takes out the sapphire and holds it in her hand.
Mel: How cute! I want a picture!
Bek: Ummm Should you really take that sapphire out and say that word?
Mel: Hm? -looks at her hand- I guess so.
Bek: I've got a very bad feeling.
Pen: Don't worry 'bout it. I'm sure everything will be fine. I mean, what could happen?
Mel: It's weird, though...
Bek: What?
Mel: It feels... alive. And I don't really remember grabbing it.
Bek: Don't say that word while holding...
Mel: KARVORTIST!
Bek: ...that.
Big mistake (but, then, you already knew that). Every light in the house turned off, along with anything electric. Sari woke up.
Sari: Ummm... sissie? Why are you glowing?
They all looked at Melody and she was, indeed, glowing. And the light coming off was getting brighter and brighter...
Mel: I think I made a mistake...
Bek: no, you THINK! This is impossible! You're glowing as bright as... -can't think of anything bright blue-
Pen: As a blue star!
Then, all of a sudden, the power went out and the light flared brighter than any light in the universe (in a contained area; don't want to break anything) and spread out, mainly surrounding the four. Penderrin was surrounded by a green light, Sari a red light, and Bekka a cream colored light. A symbol appeared on each hand; the symbols for water, earth, fire, and wind. The light then vanished into nothing and all the power came back.
All three of them glared at Melody.
Pen: WHAT DID YOU DO?!
Bek: Don't be a hypocrite. You told her to go ahead. Now, we deal with the consequences...
A loud voice boomed throughout the room.
Voice (I'm not saying his name yet): HAHAHA! You fell for it! Thank you for releasing the power...
Sari: What power?
Voice: The magical powers of the 20 elements of the stones.
Pen: What are they?
Voice: SHUT UP! I'M TRYING TO TALK!
Mel: -catching on to what Pen was doing, which was aggravating Voice- Why can't you?
Voice: -grumbles to himself for a second then continues on- Anyway, like I was TRYING to say, the 20 elements of the stones are given to 20 people destined to have the powers. The only way to tell them apart is the symbol on their hands, which no one else but one of these people can see. The way to get great power is to take the power from someone else who possess the power...
Mel: Wait, how did you know to mail the package to me?
Bek: She has a point. You had a one in a million shot in guessing who. And even if you knew who would be getting the elements, how did you know which one?
Voice: I don't know who you are. I just sent the package out...
Sari: Then how did it get here?
Voice: It was drawn to the person who could unleash the power. That person would have to be a descendant of the person who locked the power away, a twin, and bear a striking resemblance to the original.
Mel: But, I'm not a twin!
Pen: I would guess that you would be wrong.
Voice: Next question probably is, "How did you know I was born?" Well, when you were born, the sapphire, the key, flashed bright blue. The sapphire waited 'til the right time, flashed again, and I put it in a package. It did the rest. Only you or your twin could unleash the power.
Mel: How did you get the sapphire? You would think it would be guarded so this couldn't happen again.
Voice: I have my ways of getting what I want.
Sari: -suddenly- Are you the bad guy?
Voice: No, I wanted the power.
Mel: Then you are the bad guy!
Voice: -doesn't reply, but thinks- They're kinda sharp. But, now they're giving me their voices to use later...
Pen: Well, fine mess we're in...
Voice: And the twins will command the elements water and ice. I will get all the power...! -laughs insanely- *silence*
Bek: Well, we should find out what elements we are.
Mel: I know I'm either water or ice...
Sari: How do you know that?
Pen: Maybe because she is the only one who could read the letter and could say the word that unleashed everything.
Sari: Oh, yeah... wait! Does that mean... I have another older brother or sissie?
Mel: I guess so...
At that moment, Melody and Sari's mom walked in. She looked at the four, their grim faces, and the sapphire.
S/M's mom: Oh, no...
Sari: Mommy! -runs and hugs her-
Mel: -glares- Do you have anything to say?
Pen+Bek: Maybe we should go...
S/M's mom: No, it's alright. You should stay. Melody, I guess I have to tell you the truth. Eleven years ago, when you were born, we had a surprise. We didn't just have one, but two. We knew the legend, the prophecy, that one day a twin would bring the power back. So, we tried to trick the forces in motion. We sent your brother to your cousin's house while you stayed with us. She had just lost a son, so we decided it would be your brother. The only thing we got to do was name him, Melik. I'm so sorry, Melody, Sari.
Sari: But, Why?
Bek: It was probably to protect the family.
Pen: They probably didn't say what would happen when they were born... whoever controls this stuff...
Bek: Now that we have these powers, how will we be able to find the others and warn them before the "voice" gets them?
Mel: -starts walking away with the sapphire- Maybe it's people who have a special connection with that element. Or it's people that have ties with twins... -goes to her room and slams the door-
Bek: Should we follow her?
Pen: We'll go cheer her up. -goes upstairs with Bek-
Sari: Should we go?
S/M mom: No, we'll let Penderrin and Bekka cheer her up. We should gather the things needed for the journey you four will be going on to find the others.
Meanwhile, up in Melody's room...
Pen: It could be worse...
Bek: Pessimist...
Pen: Think about it! It could be that one of us was your twin.
Mel: -quietly sobbing in pillow-
Pen and Bek sit on either sides of the bed and start rubbing her back, occasionally running their fingers through her long, silky black hair. Finally, Melody starts to talk.
Mel: I just can't believe she would do something like that... never tell me I have a twin brother... who would have believed me anyway?
Bek: We could go find him...
Pen: How?
S/M mom: By using this tracking device...
The three of them jump and turn to see Sari and her mom in the doorway.
Bek: How would that work?
S/M mom: When Melik was born, we decided to give him the gem that was passed down through my husbands' side of the family.
Pen: Meaning...
Mel: They probably made it so the tracker could follow the gems' power signal. If it's anything like mine, then it probably lets off some power.
Pen: So, are we leaving?
Sari: First, mommy made a list of 20 elements.
Bek: Of the stones? I'll take the list. -starts to pocket the list-
Pen: Shouldn't we see what elements we are?
Bek: Oh, yeah! I forgot! Let's see... here's the symbol... I'm wind...
Pen: I'm earth...
Sari: I'm fire...
Bek: And Mel is... Mel? Hey!
Mel: -sleeping-
Pen: Twice in one day... that's unusual...
S/M mom: That's because she's not used to using so much magic... and if you two want to, you can stay the night.
Pen+Bek: Okay. Thank You.
Sari: When will we leave?
S/M mom: -on her way out- Tomorrow, after you're finished packing.
Pen: Hey! I can see Mel's symbol. She's... water. Makes sense. She practically lives in the water during the summer...
Bek: So Melik is ice.
Sari: And the baddie person is voice...
Pen: How do you know?
Sari: Voice is on the list of elements...
Bek: ...of power. I had been wondering if all the elements would be nature elements, but it seems some are elements of the soul...
Pen: How does that make sense?
Bek: Well, there's voice and some others, like courage, wisdom, and other stuff. And, now you've got both sisters sleeping on you. Good thing we're staying here tonight.
Pen: Oh, great. Lucky me. Can you wake them up?
Bek: Why can't you?
Pen: Because I'm nice like that. -Bek stares at him- Okay, so maybe not. Neither one will wake up if I try.
Bek: *sighs* I'll be nice. I'll do half the work. -shakes Sari gently- Wake up, Sari. Let's go to your room to sleep.
Sari: -mumbles to herself while walking out of the room-
Bek: Good night! -leaves with Sari-
Pen: Hey! Get back here! -tries to gently wake up Melody- Melody... Mel... MEL!
Mel: -sleeps on-
Pen: *sighs* Fine. I give up. -pulls a game boy like device out of his pocket-I'll just play this until I fall asleep... or until Melody wakes up.
But, she didn't. She rested her head on his left arm almost all night. Pen played his game for three hours, until 11:00. At around 6:30 am, Mel finally woke up. She looked at her "pillow", then ran downstairs to talk to her mom. When she got downstairs, she heard her mom talking to someone.
S/M mom: I seriously don't know what you're talking about...
Mysterious Visitor: At around 3:15 yesterday afternoon, there was a bright light coming from your house. Then, it spread and covered the whole area, causing a major blackout in the city. We know about your family history and about your daughter and son.
S/M mom: I'm sorry, but you must have the wrong house.
MV: Yes, maybe. Do you mind if I have a look around?
S/M mom: Yes, I do mind. It's an invasion of not only my privacy, but my children's too.
MV: Fine. But, you will pay for your defying the Voice!
S/M mom: -face hardens- Get out of my house! Go away!
MV: -starts to head out the door- By the way, I see one of your daughters in the hall. If you had any sense, you would just hand over the one with the sapphire... -closes door-
S/M mom: That was close... huh Mel.
Mel: Did you know I was there the entire time?
S/M mom: Yes, I knew. If there's a family connection, the person could feel it too.
Mel: So, you can feel the power in Sari, Melik, and I? That's pretty cool.
S/M mom: -looks at her- Yes, it is. Are you ready? I have all the things you may need to get this journey started.
Sari: -pops out from behind the stairs- I'm ready!
Bek: Me too.
Pen: Ready when you are.
The three of them were all dressed. Melody looked down at herself and grinned.
Mel: I think I need to change out of yesterdays clothes first. I seem to have fallen asleep in them last night...
Pen: And on my arm... no thanks to Bek.
Bek: -grins evilly- Well, I got Sari out. I figured that would be e-
Mel: Ready!
She comes crashing down the stairs and hits the wall head first. She stands up looking A-OK.
Everyone but Mel: Are you okay?
Mel: Yeah... just a little scratch. And a bit of a headache.
Pen: Mel, you klutz...
Sari: Are we ready yet?
Bek: Looks like it... how will we get to Melik?
Mel: We could use our powers...
S/M mom: I got you all passports. You'll be sailing to the mainland...
Mel: Awww... that's no fun...
S/M mom: And, I guess you could bring the Four-Wheelers.
Sari+Mel: YAY!
Bek: Who's driving?
Mel: I'll drive one.
Sari: I'll drive...
Bek: Sorry, Sari, but I should drive the other one. It would look suspicious if you drive one.
Sari: Okay...
S/M mom: And here's money for supplies.
Pen: Wait. How will we all get on these? I mean, how many people can they fit?
Mel: About four. They're pretty big.
Pen: I'll say. Who's going with who?
S/M mom: Sari and Melody should be separated. That way, if they kidnap Sari...
Bek: They won't have Mel.
Mel: wait... why would they be after me in particular?
S/M mom: So they can take your power and destroy you. You and Melik are the only ones who can reseal the power.
Mel: *gulps* Well, mom, we're off!
And they leave the house to got to somewhere they've never been before. With them, they have a map, two four wheelers (they shrink down to the size of Matchbox cars. got the idea from Dragonball Z), daily essentials, food, water, money, a little pocket radio, the tracker, and...
Bek: Mel, why do you still have that sapphire?
Yes, they still have the sapphire. As a matter of fact, Melody is wearing it.
Mel: Well, I thought it might help us in our search...
Pen: Maybe... but don't you think Voice would know what the sapphire looks like?
Sari: But, look! It's changed shape... and the particular shade. It's closer to sissie's eye color now.
Pen: -looks closely at it- You're right! It has changed color!
Mel: So don't worry about it. Now, let's get below deck and go to sleep. -it's night time- (it took all day to get to the docking area)
They go down below and go to sleep on their own, separate beds. Suddenly, the sapphire glows gently and Melody wakes up.
Mel: -sits up and looks around- I wonder why I woke up... -lays back down and tries to sleep. Is unsuccessful- Fine. I'll go up on deck.
She goes up to the deck. When she gets there, Mel finds a girl of about 14 playing with lightning. On her shoulder is a pet squirrel.
Mel: -walks up to her- Hello. What's your name? My name's Melody, but you can call me Mel. -extends her hand with the water mark on it-
Girl: -looks down at it, thinking for a second. She looks up at Mel's kind, open face. She takes the hand- My name's Kanai. This is Sparky.
Sparky: -makes little squirrel noises-
Mel: How cute! So, what are you doing here?
Kanai: Tell me what you're doing first.
Mel: OK. Well, I'm on this ship to go to the mainland to find my brother. I was trying to sleep, but I woke up and couldn't fall back to sleep. And now I'm here.
Kanai: Are you alone?
Mel: Nope. My sister and two of my friends are here with me. Are you?
Kanai: I've got Sparky. I'm here to go to the mainland to hide.
Mel: Why?
Kanai: Because earlier this morning, some guy came to my house looking for an elemental power. So my parents shipped me off for my safety. I don't know where I'll hide...
Mel: You can come with us! The same thing happened to us this morning, too.
Kanai: Where are you going?
Mel: We're going to go find my brother, Melik, and go find this person and beat him.
Kanai: I'll go with you. Who's your leader?
Mel: Uhhh... we don't really have a leader. We treat each other equally.
Kanai: Oh, OK. So, you know what element I represent. Which one do you represent?
Mel: I represent water.
Kanai: Ah. Did you know, legend has it that the person who can unlock the power is either water or ice? Did you unlock it?
Mel: Accidentally. The word was out of my mouth before I could do anything.
Kanai: Ah. That sucks. Too bad that happened. Well, we should go to bed. Night, Mel.
Mel: Good night. I'll meet you back up here tomorrow morning?
Kanai: OK.
They both go below deck and go to sleep. They sleep for the rest of the night and are well rested for the next day.
