When Brother Carroll, the founder of Mountain Faith Mission, was in Haiti, he was known for having some of the finest schools on the island. He worked closely with the government teaching them how to educate and he also got the government to start printings birth certificates in Haiti. Mountain Faith Mission's schools have produced doctors, lawyers, teachers and government officials. Yearly teacher training seminars are held for mountain faith mission's elementary and secondary teachers by Dr. Cindy Essex-Walker from Sparta, Tennessee. (see picture in border)

[Mirebalais School]

Mirebalais School Building

The Mountain Faith Mission elementary School at Mirebalais was founded in 1963. It has approximately 450 students with 10 paid teachers. The director is John Paul Louis and the secretary is Camille Mocais.

[Belmat School]

Belmat School, 50 students.
Made of only banana leaves.
In need of building, benches and books.

Saut D'eau elementary has approximately 410 students with 8 teachers. The secondary school at Saut D'eau has approximately 150 students with 14 teachers. Mountain Faith Mission has several other schools under their umbrella but the teachers and directors receive no pay due to lack of funds. For example the Domono school has 100 students, Desearme has 150 students and Bel-Mat 50 students. Paid teachers with Mountain Faith Mission receive $20 a month. Teachers at Colombia, Losse, Gymbal and LaChapell are in need of a monthly salary. This would build attendance and encourage the teachers for their hard, volunteer efforts.

The government in Haiti does not pay their school directors or teachers. All schools throughout Haiti are started by missions such as Mountain Faith Mission. Illiteracy is rampant in Haiti and the need is great for books and school supplies. Better buildings with adequate facilities are greatly needed, also. If you could help with a donation toward our schools it would be appreciated and make such a difference in a child's life. All gifts to Mountain Faith Mission are tax-deductible. 100% of what you give goes where designated. No board members receive a salary. Mountain Faith Mission is run by volunteer effort!
