'The Boxer', 2000. progresso on paper. The Boxer is based on a photograph of Ethan Hawke (and a nice one at that). I loved the contrasts between shadow and light and really enjoyed bringing out these features with colour. I saw colour where there wasn't any. The Boxer was my first real experimentational work with progresso, and it heralded the beginning of my ongoing passion for progresso...my favourite part in the picture? either the eyes or the hair.
'And I loved You...', 1998. pen on paper. This is one of those works that sort of just sprang to life from nothing and everything. A collage of random thoughts and feelings of the time, it's probably doomed to be a mystery, even to myself, as far as its meaning. I guess you can take what you want from it, and read it however you like...that's what i love about it.
'Morrigan', 1999. oil pastel on paper. This babelicious goddess is actually taken from the anime series, Vampire Hunter. All i know is that the character's name is Morrigan, and she kicks undead ass! this piece was one of many for my year 11 drawing project, the theme being vampires.
'Hollow', 2000. graphite pencils on paper. Have you seen the film, Sleepy Hollow? if you have, then you should remember who this character is. While not a particularly outstanding movie, i really liked this pic.
'If Only I Could So Live', 2001. pastel on paper. this photo shows a detail from my HSC work. Unfortunately, the work is too big to scan so I'm going to put up a photo of the whole drawing soon...
'Symmetry', 1999. mixed media on paper. Although this one's not anyone's favourite, (it usually gets a bad reaction), for some reason i've always really liked it. my art teacher in high school told me it's 'technique is very effective'...whatever that means...but i appreciate her positive(?) comments.
'Aqua Comet', 2000(?) some random photo i took for fun and experimentation, which turned out really well. can you guess what it really is? (tis not that hard to figure out. hint: look closely at the background.)
'Don't Be Afraid', 2000-2001. progresso on paper. my obsession with progresso continues, as can evidently be seen here. I love this drawing, it's really quite magical, and has some effect on most people. it's very aesthetically pleasing.
'Elves', 1998(?) pencil on paper. a very different style to what i'm into right now. i was very much into sketching in pencil and even charcoal back then. i think it's an interesting style; not quite cartoon, not quite anime, not quite ideal, not quite realistic. it's a bit of an eccentric drawing style.
