These are the famous charcoal kilns.  There are a dozen or so of them in a row.

With the elevation being about 6000 ft, my carb was giving me trouble.

Dat and Carlos decided to got to the top where the snow is and Steve, Kevin, and myself decided to make a run to Skidoo ghost town.
That's where my truck flooded due to the bowl vent valve problem.  Kevin was quick to fix me up with a minute mod consisting of a bolt plugging the return line to the charcoal canister.  After a few minutes with the air cleaner off, it started right up.

You can see a little snow to the right of my truck.  Later Dat & Carlos reported a nice challenging run up to the top where all the snow was.
We had finished our exploration for the day and were back on the hardtop heading for Beatty NV for the night.  We stopped along the way to take a few shots of this sunset.

The route took us over Day Light pass to get into Beatty.  This was another sea level to 5000 foot climb for my 2.6 with a sick carb to handle.  I was in 3rd gear at 4000 rpm to keep climbing at around 55 mph.
This is what's left of the Skidoo gold mine.  We kept looking for the town and found nothing!!  On the way back out we stopped at a sign near an empty field.  It explained that this is where Skidoo used to be.  Not a single thing left to identify the site.  On the way up, we stopped at a few mines that seemed to go on forever back into the rock.  Large welded angle iron kept us from venturing into the depths.
