Ballerat was a collection of old shacks, and this truck. Somebody said it was a Jeep to the dislike of the Jeep crowd... well, the dog thought it was still very usable. It was purported to be owned by Tex Watson of the Manson family. |

Here's a picture of some of the Jeepers. One jeep had an air siren that was used as a Jeep owner recall device. Very useful for getting everyone back to their trucks and moving out. |

This is the beginning of Jail Canyon, mostly rocky river bed and a few challenging washouts for the 235 size tires & open diffs. I would see big trucks up front slow down and then droop into a washout with no problem at all. When it was my turn there was nothing to do except go for it! I dragged my hitch a few times but that's about it. One time Steve took the more challenging route but I wasn't about to follow him. There is just no comparison between my stock tires and his 33's. I think I had more fun with my stocker. It was not much of a challenge for the built up trucks. Lucky for me the trip was as advertised, an easy family oriented run. |

Here we are waiting for our monster convoy to start moving. That's Carlos' rig with Kevin in front with the Turbo '87 Raider. Carlos has a very nice electric cooler which I kept raiding for soda since I only brought water. |
