Ballerat was a collection of old shacks, and this truck.  Somebody said it was a Jeep to the dislike of the Jeep crowd... well, the dog thought it was still very usable. It was purported to be owned by Tex Watson of the Manson family. Here's a picture of some of the Jeepers.  One jeep had an air siren that was used as a Jeep owner recall device.  Very useful for getting everyone back to their trucks and moving out.
This is the beginning of Jail Canyon, mostly rocky river bed and a few challenging washouts for the 235 size tires & open diffs.  I would see big trucks up front slow down and then droop into a washout with no problem at all.  When it was my turn there was nothing to do except go for it!  I dragged my hitch a few times but that's about it.  One time Steve took the more challenging route but I wasn't about to follow him.  There is just no comparison between my stock tires and his 33's.  I think I had more fun with my stocker.  It was not much of a challenge for the built up trucks.  Lucky for me the trip was as advertised, an easy family oriented run.
Here we are waiting for our monster convoy to start moving.  That's Carlos' rig with Kevin in front with the Turbo '87 Raider.  Carlos has a very nice electric cooler which I kept raiding for soda since I only brought water.
