Terry Johnson, President of the Getting Off 4x4 club invited us to participate in this years Death Valley run.  As you can see we had a great turn out. (from left to right, Dat, Carlos, Unknown, Les J., Kevin A., & Steve B. We all lined up next to the Econo Lodge in Redgecrest, CA early Saturday morning.  Carlos was out looking for food so he missed out on this shot.
The unknown owner of the 2001 Montero was someone we grabbed off the street and asked if wanted to come.  It still had dealer tags on it!
IN ATTENDANCE
There was a total of about 38 trucks.  The main group being Toyota's (21) followed by Jeeps (13) and Montero's (6).  The rest of the group was a mix of a few Bronco's, Chevy's, Dodges, a single Land Rover, Acura, and oh, I almost forgot, a front wheel drive Volkswagen Truck.  The owner's truck was out of commission, but this got him to the action.
TRIP MAP
The red outline is the Saturday trip and the Blue outline the Sunday trip.  On Saturday we did a total of 175 miles.  It was about 30 miles from Ridgecrest to Ballarat Ghost town.  On the ride up, there was lots of CB chatter, mostly friendly heckling about who's truck was the best.  Some of the more notable was "What's a Montero?" with the reply being "A Jeep recovery vehicle!"  Someone also mentioned the Paris Dakar rally and I believe DC pointed out that it was won by a Montero.

We quickly found out that eating 38 trucks dust was a bad idea. There were places where I had total "dust out".  We gave each other enough space but I was still scared of DC's ARB bumper coming up behind me.

When we entered Jail Canyon, everything slowed way down so the dust was not such a problem.  The little Volkswagen truck pulled to the side and the driver jumped in another truck so nobody missed out on the fun.
