LEADERSHIP
The intention of this website is to educate, provide tools, and inspire people who are interested in leadership to further develop their skills. In the following pages we focus on leadership theories, real life examples of local and exemplary leaders, famous quotes and learning resources. As students of Business at ECU University, we have collectively produced our summary on our thoughts and what we have learnt through studying leadership.
There are many different definitions for leadership; however the two definitions that stand out the most to us are; �getting people to follow voluntarily and the ability to affect human behaviour so as to accomplish a mission designated by the leader� (Wikipedia, 2008), and �The art of influencing people by persuasion or example to follow a line of action.�(Dubrin et al, 2006 page 3). The word art is important because successful leadership does not have one set of rules to follow. It must be constantly adapting and evolving depending on the goal, situation and the culture of the followers.
Leadership is very important in all aspects of life whether it be in business, sports, politics, religion or family life. The majority of people will have the opportunity to lead at something in their lives. Furthermore it is important to understand good leadership and the need for it in order to survive and succeed, as we all need direction in life. They are many different traits which are deemed to be important in order to be a good leader, but it is very difficult to determine how much of each is enough and when each one should surface (Dubrin, 2006).
