Marsaxlokk is a fishing village in the southern part of Malta. It is a harbour in the South as the name itself suggests: Marsa = port  Xlokk = South.
Marsaxlokk is  a place of charm and serenity. Tourists visit often this village to admire the colourful boats called 'luzzu' and 'kajjik', the fishermen at shore mending their fishing nets when the sea is rough and the wives of the fishermen knitting nylon string bags for the tourists. Tourists walk along the shores, relax in the many coffee shops situated a few metres away from the shore admiring the beautiful scenes this village offers. Every day, along the quay, there is an open market with stalls of crochet table-cloths, souveniers etc. all typical objects which remind the tourists of their stay in this village. Every Sunday there is also a fish market where tourists can buy fresh fish caught by local fishermen.

But Marsaxlokk is also a village with a historical past. Tas-Silg temple - an archeological site still being excavated which reminds us of the Late Neolitic Megalitic temples and Fort St.Lucian - a fort built to oppose the landing of pirates are only part of the attractive important places found in this village.

As you can see from the photos below, Marsaxlokk is a village worth visiting!
Jeff and Faye visited also the everyday local market. Here tourists can buy hand-made knitted crochet table-cloths, clothes and souveniers for their relatives to remind them of their stay in Marsaxlokk.
The colourful boats anchored at the harbour. There are four main types of boats which are the 'frejgatina' (a very small boat), the 'luzzu' and the 'kajjik' (these are a little bit bigger) and the 'skuna' - a very big fishing boat used by professional fishermen.

Jeff and Faye whilst on holiday in Malta.
