Have a look at photos taken during class outings and activities. Children love going round the island to discover interesting things about their past. Most of the time, class outings are linked to topics which are covered during the year. I encourage the children to discuss the topic in question in class. Children are given handouts, shown pictures, asked to look for information etc. about that particular topic. Then, during the second phase of the lesson, the children are given the opportunity to actually be part of what they have learnt by visiting places, talking to people to gather informationetc. This way, their learning is fun and above all relevant to them.
