MIRAS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
The MIRAS Schools provide a comprehensive challenging academic program with high standards and expectations for all students from both the local and ex-patriate community living in Almaty. The schools are committed to developing students who possess self-discipline, a deep understanding and appreciation of international co-operation and responsible citizenship. The MIRAS Schools endeavor to provide students with a valuable education emphasizing critical and compassionate thinking, a lifelong love for learning and an informed participation in the local and global community. The schools also provide an environment that binds individuals and cultures together in the name of progress. The central goal of MIS is to create a new international school that features:
THE PHILOSOPHY OF MIRAS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL MIS will provide an educational program which promotes the highest standards and expectations for its students, and which incorporates the best practices of both the local and international programs of study. We will strive to be a community where the skills and attitudes of global citizenship are refined, promoted and practiced. Intellectual and Moral Development The two primary goals of a school are: to promote the academic, intellectual aspects of development which will empower students to pursue higher education and a professional
career and to foster the development of the skills and attitudes which will lead students to become caring, committed, contributing citizens. All students should have access to a challenging, engaging curriculum which reflects the most current understanding of both how humans learn, as well as the most effective practices found in today's successful schools. An international school is a community in which parents, teachers, students and administrators share a common core of values and a unique opportunity to encourage the development of the skills and attitudes of community well being and development. A quality educational program incorporates the principle that education implies both the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes, as well as the releasing of individual human potential. Teachers, administrators, students and parents are accountable for student learning. What students do at school should have meaning and relevance in real-life contexts. The behaviors and attitudes of teachers and other adults in the school community have as strong an impact on what and how students learn as their classroom activities.
