A Stone Buddha presides over a ruined temple complex

Stone Buddha Temple Camp

My Asian camps were selling fairly well, so when I was making up a batch to take to Cold Wars, I decided to do another Buddha camp. I also had been itching to try my hand at using sculpey, so figured a ruined temple would be the perfect testing case.

All of the stones are made from black-colored sculpey. I shaped them into rough rectangles and baked them, as the directions say. I could probably have made them even smaller than I did, but the large stones give a rough hewn look that I often saw in temples in Bali. The pedestal and platform the Buddha sits upon is also sculpey, although I had to sand a flat spot for the image to rest upon. The Buddha itself is actually brass from a set I bought in Myanmar. I painted it black, and then along with the rest of the temple, drybrushed it dark gray, then light gray.

The camp followers are from Feudal Castings' "Oriental Peasants" pack. The styrene plastic base was painted an earthy red brown, then flocked with a blend of Woodland Scenics grasses. A few larger clumps of flocking were glued down on top and around the stones to give it an overgrown look.

It was Sunday at Cold Wars before this camp finally sold. I had to take $5 off the price to "move it," and David Schlanger ended up getting it for $20.
