A night watchman and his dog patrol past sleeping soldiers

"Sleepytime" Night Watchman Camp

I created this camp with a determination to do a simpler, less involved camp. Years back, I had purchased a few bags of Essex casualty packs, but never got around to painting them up for the markers I intended. Looking at them, I thought they'd make sleeping guys equally well -- there are no obvious wounds or anything.

The fire ring is aquarium gravel with cotton ball smoke added last -- after all flocking is done (otherwise, you get little bits of flock in the smoke). The blankets the sleepers are laying on are a thick paper towel. The sleepers are Essex casualties, as I said, while the patrolling night watchman is also Essex from their Celtic line, I believe. The dog is a small Ral Partha 25mm dog.

The name "Sleepytime" is in honor of my friend, Jason Mirosavich, who has a blanket on his couch that seems to have a Sandman effect on him. Everytime he covers up in it, he drifts off to sleep -- including when I flew down to visit him last and we were in mid-discussion on our various painting projects!

This camp was purchased at Cold Wars for $20 by Dennis Frank.
