Ruined Temple of Ganesh camp

Temple of Ganesh camp

I was inspired to do this camp by David Kuijt's excellent camps on his web page. On my trips to SE Asia the last couple years, I picked up various tiny brass castings of Ganesh and other Hindu deities. One of my Ganeshes went to form the centerpiece of this camp.

I wanted to make a tiled like effect for the floor of these overgrown temple, so the base tended to be a bit complex. First, I epoxied three squares of bass wood of progressively smaller size atop each other and onto the plastic styrene base for the god's platform. The god was then expoxied on the platform. Then, I took a much thinner sheet of plastic styrene and cut it into squares, which were then epoxied to the base leaving an appreciable gap between each.

Next came the people. Both are from Feudal Castings' "Oriental Peasants" pack -- one painted to look like a monk, while the other an armed camp follower. A small fancy bead was glued in front of the idol as a incense holder, and three wires were affixed inside as joss sticks. I put dabs of epoxy on their ends and wrapped cotton balls around them. Once dry, I pulled most of the cotton ball off, leaving a "smoky wisp" remaining attached.

Next, the tiles, platform and idol were painted a dark gray. Lighter gray was then drybrushed over it, or in the case of the tiles, painted to give the effect of light playing upon their surface. To make the temple look overgrown, I glued flocking into the gaps between the tiles and on the platform.

I was pretty pleased with how this temple turned out. It can be used for any Indian, SE Asian or even Chinese army, I would think.

This camp was snatched up at Warband by Jason Stelzer for $25...well, his Dad, Mike Stelzer, paid. Not sure if he took it out of his allowance, though!
