Arab Felt Tent camp

Arab Felt Tent camp

I actually made this camp last December along with another one to give away for a prize for the Winter Sword DBA tourney. Then, I remembered I had another Biblical theme camp that didn't fit in my boxes, and decided to give it away, instead. Of the three, I would keep this one of the three. Then, after my rousing success selling camps at our Gods of War DBA meeting, that greed got the better of me, and this camp went on the block.

It was created using a styrene plastic base, like most of my camps. The tent was the difficult bit. I used a thumbtack to make holes for brass wire to be inserted and epoxied onto the styrene base. The brass wire acted as poles to wrap the black felt -- made from a piece of black felt! -- around. The felt was in two parts. A long strip was wrapped around the poles for the sides, which was covered by a circular strip of black felt epoxied atop. Once dry, I wedged in a piece of rigid plastic into the center of the tent to make the roof come to a point. It doesn't up, but tiny strips of magazine pictures of oriental rugs were cut out and glued on the "floor" and doorway of the tent.

The rest of the camp was pretty straightforward. The containers are fancy beads from Hobby Lobby, filled with tiny orange and red balls to look like fruit. The camel is an Essex pack camel, its handler is a Semitic slinger. The Arabic man and woman are from Falcon's civilians line.

The base was painted tan and flocked with Woodland Scenics Earth. Tiny aquarium rocks were epoxied to the base as rubble.

I had originally been happy enough with this camp to NOT give it away. However, it couldn't succumb to the bull market on camps, and was sold to Jack Shaw at Warband for $25.
