Ghostbusters: Proton Pack

(Status: Project Underway)

When I thought that I was getting to be a competent runner I trained and ran marathons; that quickly dispelled any illusions I might have had about being "good". I am starting to view the Proton Pack as the marathon of prop building. I began this project in the winter of 2001 when the Ghostbusters Prop Board started their active project. An active project is a group of prop builders who get together online and try to build a specific prop at the same time, sharing their progress and experiences as they go. The project promised regular tutorials but these petered out early on. The board is still a good source of knowledge and you get access to plenty of experienced builders but the active project isn't so active anymore.

When the tutorials stopped being forthcoming we builders broke into two camps; those who rushed on and completed this project on their own and the rest of us, who were left a little lost.

Currently I have roughed out all the main structures of the pack itself, primarily in wood, using these plans. Before I can move on I must skim and sand all of these boxes in Bondo (a daunting task). I would like to have this project finished by the fall of 2002.
