Cubs Bats Explode in Near Record Setting 4th Inning
Chicago-- The Cubs entered Thursday's series finale with the Cardinals licking their wounds and hoping to recover from Wednesday's thumping at the hands of the Red-Birds 12-4. There was a chance for a series split at stake, a very large split in the eyes of the Cubs considering the time of the season. The Cubs may have caught a break today though as projected starter Jason Marquis couldn't go because of back spasms, so Dan Haren was called up on an emergency basis. Haren was doing alright...until that 4th inning everyone keeps talking about. The Cubs ripped off 11 consecutive hits tying a club record which was set nearly 80 years ago. The Cubs did most of this damage with two outs. As we have mentioned before, the Cubs are the best run producing team in the majors with 2 outs. They scored 9 runs today with 2 outs (in the 4th inning). Moises Alou had a 3 run homerun to make it 8-0 Cubs. Aramis Ramirez smacked an RBI double to the wall in center to make it 9-0 setting up Derek Lee's 2 run homer to make it 11-0. Corey Patterson added one last hit for the inning before the Cubs were eventually retired in the 4th. The Cards had homers from John Mabrey and Ray Lankford, but then Todd Walker added one last blast to make the game 12-2 in the 5th. Carlos Zambrano pitched another gem earning his 7th win. The final from Wrigley, 7-2 Cubs.
The big news from Wrigley today was the Cubs offense in the 4th inning. The Cubs plated 10 runs in the 4th alone, with 10 hits, only one shy of the club's modern era record.

Prior Autograph Deal Turns Ugly

Chicago, IL; AP-- Mark Prior was scheduled to appear at a sports collectibles store in Naperville, IL, a suburb of the Chicagoland area. The store owner of JUST DUCKY TOO approached Prior to sign some collectible stadium figurines. Prior then learned that the store owners made the appearance a "Meet and Greet" event with the pitcher. "That's not what I signed up for," says Prior. "Knowing what today was, I wasn't going to be in the mood to take pictures and shake hands with 150 people, and I think most people would understand that...I signed up to do something and I was not going to back out of it. I went to business school, I know how these things work. I know what I was legally contracted to do."
