This time the team is better prepared for what the media show can lead to; they have now brought a press manager. Now the fan culture around the team really flourishes and a big crowd of happy "roligans" follow the national team everywhere. The Championship offers a tough scheme with seven matches during nine days and really lousy accommodations. Gitte is injured and Camilla replaces her in the attack (right side), doing really well. Conny twists her ankle and is sent home - instead the team send for Susanne Bojlesen back in Denmark.
It will also be the Championship remembered for the two referees, who really hated Anja Andersen - they'd even told Ulrik that "during the next match, she won't last all the way through" and they'd do anything to send her out. Berlin will also be remembered for the scandalous floor on the court, so slippery that is was dangerous to play there in the first place: but no one would admit it was so. Much looked like Bambi on ice until the finals was about to be played. Denmark and Norway refused to play if not the floor was replaced and so it finally was. It was not a nice surprise to find the two Anja hating referees in the finals, but a numerous and loud Danish audience supported their team. As could be predicted, even without a crystal ball, Anja was expelled twice; both for very unjust reasons - resulting in a red card. She does not complain to the referees but simply points out some mistakes they've made and raises her arms in disbelief. Heartbroken Anja leaves for the showers and does not witness how Anne Dearth, Camilla and Susanne fights to win the gold. |
