There were many things that were ugly for Barnstoneworth Ottershaw on Saturday. For starters you only need look at their keeper to know the story. And it doesn't get any better the further up the field you travel. Except perhaps for new boy Drew Haydon. Many don't believe he fits in the team as he runs too hard anyway. The ugliness had many facets on Saturday as they went down to CYMS Carinya in another loss at the Stadium. The day was bleak and miserable. The goal that separated the sides was certainly ugly from the Barnie Army's point of view. The ugly wound that opened in defence allowed the CYMS player time to control the ball and play it round before slotting it into the side of the net. It was looking like a long day for Barnies as, in comparison CYMS were very pretty to watch. Their passing was accurate and their work on the ball was effective. However, the rest of the day belonged to the ugly defence and desperation of Ottershaw. The spirit of Barnies was the only thing that was scenic and it certainly shone through the ugliness of the day. Trent Brown again was reliable and cleared well at the back. His return this year to the team has seen more gusto in recent weeks as he has found his stride. 'Hit man' Jackson was back and relishing the contest after a couple of weeks away on other duties. Jacko's no nonsense style has dented the pride of many an opposition striker. Paul Crain covered his usual amount of ground and defended his territory well. He manages to bob up well at the right time to get the ball to safety. The wily red fox, Sid Grindley, is always a favourite of the Barnie Army. The cheer that goes up is heard throughout Orange when he casually plays the ball around at his feet and then finds a team mate. Despite being outplayed Barnies did exceptionally well to only lose by one goal and there were certainly many chances that could have levelled the game. This might have been a travesty for the skill but not for the passion and intensity of performance. Some attacking raids by Barnies could the CYMS defence by surprise and if not for a touch of finishing prowess the game could have been levelled. There was a moment late in the match where the CYMS keeper was definitely worried about a cross that went over his head only to lamely bounce across the goalmouth. There are detractors of Barnies who believed that there lofty position on the table was an aberration but they showed on Saturday that they are able to compete well with the best. They might not maintain their heights but they certainly have deserved their position. The final ugliness of the day only happened well after the whistle had blown. It was not witnessed by many and can only be imagined here. It happened when 'TJ' Johnson had to go home to explain the state of the family skiing trip after he did a significant amount of further damage to his knee. All the best Tim. If you have a comment about the report the why not put it in the Guestbook
