My name is Melissa. I was born near and raised in Port Moody, British Columbia, just east of the BIG city, Vancouver. I have been married since November 1998 to the most wonderful man in the world!

Growing up I had four
career aspirations… to be a doctor, a flight attendant, a supermodel, or a
wife and mom. Needless to say a career as a supermodel wasn’t an option and
the opportunity to become a flight attendant never got off the ground (sorry
for the pun, I just couldn’t help myself!). I ditched the idea of becoming
a doctor after barely passing Physics 12… so that left being a wife and mom.

Since I wasn’t married by the time I graduated high school, I decided to carry on my education at the University of Victoria, in Victoria, BC (on Vancouver Island). I was there only for two years, my interests at the time not really being in academics. I did have a lot of fun with my friends living in residence (dorms), going out to clubs and cheering on our basketball team. After my two-year stint at university, I moved back home and found a job. Nine months later, I found myself looking to re-locate to Victoria. I had a great time, and got some great life-experience, living with roommates and then on my own, before deciding, after two years, to move back home again. I can see now how it was all God’s plan to get me back to the mainland, and into a job that had me working in downtown Vancouver.

I had been living back at home for about nine months when I was stopped Robson Street (the main strip in downtown Vancouver) on my lunch break and invited out the a gospel meeting by a girl who was about my age. I decided to check it out, since I was in fact “shopping” for a church at the time. That was my introduction to the Vancouver Church of Christ. I have been going there ever since. The girls there were instrumental in helping me to understand exactly what it means to be a Christian. In January 1996 I was baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of my sins and to received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

It was there that I met Colin and many more people who have become like family to me. It was the first time I had ever been to a church that actually practiced what they preached, and took being a disciple of Jesus seriously. If it weren’t for them, my relationship with God would not be a strong as it is today, and it definitely would not have been able to sustain the challenges that Colin and I faced in 2000 with the birth and death of our first child, our son Nathaniel.

An e-group I joined has been a great support in our loss. AnAngelForMe is a wonderful group of women who have also gone through the trials and tribulations that come with loosing a child.

In August 2001 God gave us an amazing gift... we found out that I was pregnant the day we finally moved to Edmonton! Our son, Corben Joshua, was born on April 23, 2002, at 3:44 am. He weighed in at 8lbs 14 oz. He is a very active little bugger - he takes after his dad and can't sit still for a minute! On September 29, 2004 he was joined by Logan Matthew, who weighed in at 6lbs 14 oz. He's the fastest crawler in the west. 8-)

I am proud to say that I am now a housewife and SAHM (Stay At Home Mom). By trade I am a bookkeeper, but I have not been working outside the home in a permanent job since January 2000. I LOVE being at home! I spend my days raising the boys, hanging-out with friends or doing household chores. In my “free” time (ha ha... what's that??!!) I love to play on the computer and chat with my e-friends. I also help out my hubby by doing administration and bookkeeping for our company, SleepTracker Canada Inc.
