Wanderlust

I caught the travel bug early. My family took regular vacations when I was young, traveling to the West Coast of Canada, through the Northern US, into North-Western Ontario, and to Florida. We revisited many places, especially where we have many friends, like in Calgary and Saskatoon.

Once I started high school, I got the chance to travel with the concert band and jazz band ensembles that I was a part of. We traveled within western Canada and to Chicago. I also participated in the Encounters with Canada program during Grade 11.

During my time as a student at the University of Winnipeg, I didn't have as much time for travel, as I was in class 8 months, and spent the summers working to be able to pay tuition fees yearly. However, I did get the opportunity to spend an entire summer in Ottawa, working as a tour guide on Parliament Hill. This gave me the opportunity to really explore the National Capital Region. It is one of my favourite places to visit, and I got lucky enough to once again find myself with a summer job there.

The photos below are from my trip there in October of 2007 (photos courtesy Rosanne Lester) and from this past summer while I was working for Library and Archives Canada.

The most exciting travel opportunity I had came about as a result of my studies at the UW. In the fall of 2003 I participated in the Year-Abroad program with the French Studies department, and spent 10 months living in France. During this time, I had the chance to travel extensively in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, and also went to Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and London, England. Most of my own photos from this time are still on film, as I was working with a film camera. As a result, the photos below are courtesy of my friends Julia, Christian, and Denis.

During my time in Montreal, I have had the opportunity to explore the city, and also took advantage of the fall reading break of 2008 to take a road trip from Montreal to Winnipeg, driving through Ontario during the prime fall colours. As you may be able to tell, most of the following photos were taken from inside the car.
