We moved back to Ipswich in 2001 for a couple of years, but returned to the states in 2003. Miss it so much that we are hoping to return the end of 2006. • Gary Montecalvo : Martlesham Heath, 1975-76, 2164th. What a great site. We had some great times, parties, flag football team, Running Buck and rec room. Names that come to mind, Mark Muchow, Frank Hickey, Hank Staron, John Barrett, Russ Rearick, Mark Tarplee, Ken Wipf, Bernie Vancel, Al Gardine, Brad Ahrens, Kevin Milligan, Tom Day, Dennis Midhoffer, Capt Wadorsnik, Capt Hashimoto, Terry Gilliland and many more but have forgotten their names. RAF Bentwaters had a great gym, better food and great football games. The F4's were very impressive with their powerful afterburners and noise. It is sad to see weeds growing on the deserted base. The whole experience was great. I learned after joining MCI, 2/3rds of the people working in civ comm field were ex-military. Thinking back, what a great deal, travel, great friends, free education, we had it made.12/09/98
  • Maurice Monteiro: Las Vegas, NV. RAF Bentwaters, Jul 1985-Jul 1987, 511th AMU of the 81st AGS, ECS maintenance tech on the A-10. Working on the flight-line brings back many memories. Some good, some bad. I met a lot of good people there but lost track of them all. I went to serve at Dyess AFB for the rest of my enlistment. I live in Vegas now and just received my Master's degree in Education. Some names I remember but forgot so many. I remember the beautiful countryside and biking on many ocassions throughout East Anglia. I also used to take long walks throughout the roads behind the base. I marveled at the scenery and easily understood what prompted writers and poets to create the works they had accomplished. Especially during the winter, there was something magical about the landscape. The cottages with smoke unfurling from chimneys, crystal icicles hanging from tree limbs, and the surprise of seeing deer occasionally dart across a path. In spite of the many experiences I had there, I still feel that I didn't seize as many oppurtunities as I should have. I find myself missing England very much at times. The memories come back more vividly as I write this. I plan on going back and visiting the areas I had spent two years of my life in. Nostalgia or a sense of closure, I'm not sure which one, maybe a sense of both. If anyone I had been stationed with would like to contact me, please do. I am especially looking for William Kwan who was a Nav Specialist on the flightline with me. Thanks for the wonderful website which has triggered many "long-ago" experiences and memories. 1/9/02

I currently perform religious cult research, I'm into computers and the Internet scene, and I review Website design and online marketing books at webreviewer.com. While at RAF Bentwaters I enjoyed motorcycling around the UK, eating plenty of fish'n chips, and listening to the British invasions tunes. I bought plenty of 1960's music. I came to faith in Jesus Christ through the evangelistic efforts of Faith Baptist Church which was located near our base.
