Joseph Mencarelli: RAF Alconbury and RAF Wethersfield,Apr 1972-Jun 1974, 7510th MMS, Weapons release shop servicing the ejection racks for munitions and fuel tanks on the RF4C. Also servicing the photo racks on the rear of the aircraft. We TDY to Wethersfield sometime in 1973 along with the RF4C and other squadrons as they were redoing the runway at Alconbury.I remember they use to run a shuttle bus between the bases. I remember drinking at the Green Man pub located on the road going into Fitchingfield.The bowling alley was quite small having only a few lanes.Great times.Any Munitions Maint.Personal in that time frame or other shops out there? drop a line. 06/07/06

I was fortunate to have been an insurance rep serving the men and women and families of RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge during the 1970s. We lived in the wonderful town of Felixstowe. We lived on the economy in Saxmundham, and I attended WHS, 9th grade to almost end of 11th grade, before dad retired to Texas. My parents and brother, Jay, are doing well. Mom was Chom, and had the Korean food establishments on RAf Woodbridge and at the Rec Center at RAF Bentwaters. I'm married now and mother of two children. Bob Miller: RAF Woodbridge. Flew F-4s, 78th, March 1970-October 1974 (Extended my 4-yr tour by 6 mo). Just stumbled across your web site and want to pass along my appreciation. I haven't had time to check out all of the nooks and crannies yet, but I'll come back for more later. I can relate to some of the stories and anecdotes even though I do not know the people writing them. I was a bit disappointed that I did not recognize any of the names in your directory; hopefully more of the old gang will sign in. My wife is from Ipswich and we now reside in Texas where I ply my engineering trade with Exxon. May feel inspired in the future and come back with a couple of anecdotes of my own. Worked in Material Facilities at RAF Bentwaters 1967-69, for a SMSgt Toney, MSgt Miroshewski & SMSgt Hoopaugh. John used to come over to our building for morning coffee!. We were married in 1968 and lived in Snape. Returned stateside summer of '69. Later stationed at RAF Upper Heyford, 1980-83. Spent a month back there this past spring. Dean Mills: I don't know anything about computers yet but my friends have told me you have a brilliant web site and they have told me to try this way of contacting you as I am using an office comp while I clean the place up. A1C Gail Minks: Neenah, WI forty miles south of Green Bay, the home of the famous Packers. RAF Bentwaters Feb 27 1963-Apr 11 1965, 81st Air Police Sq, 'D' Flight Security Feb 1963 to Jul 1964 then 'D' Flight Law Enforcement Jul 1964 to Apr 1965. Talk about great memories. Oh sure just like any other young GI at the time, I couldn't wait to get back to the states and get discharged. Later years you develop a tremendous amount of respect for what you did at the time and the fact that you served your country. The more life goes on, the more respect I have for it. Would love to visit the old base someday and sorry to hear it is closed. Commander was Major Autin, Operations Officer was a Lt Harris. Worked for a TSgt Cecil at first, then worked with Frank Lemke & Gene Demers in Law Enforcement. Have been in contact with a couple of people from those days. Gillian (Crane) Mirenda : NJ, USA, via Suffolk, England. I used to be a school secretary at WJHS, l968-72. Met many lovely American citizens and their families. Met and married an American Science teacher (James A) stationed there for a short period. I am a native of Suffolk, bred and born, and lived approximately one mile from RAF Woodbridge, towards Hollesley. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Hope some of the faculty will visit these pages. Have lost touch with so many good friends from that period in my life. I too am saddened that the bases have closed.
