Old Quito

This is from one day walking around old Quito.  Apparently it is quite dangerous after the sun goes down which is too bad cause some of the buildings would be mind blowing in natural fading light.  This side will be expanding throughout the year.

Taken in the central park area around old quito.  A beautiful common space that apparently is packed during the week day even more so when it was this Saturday.

It seems every couple of steps you see an absolutely beautiful building here are the fronts of two churches as examples.

Here is the cathedral Francisco.  There are seven (i think) churches and you can follow them through this part of the city.  They are beautiful both inside and out.  Right some of the incredible gold work inside, at what cost?

There are a couple of major landmarks around Old Quito.  One of these is definitley the Basillica seen in these shots.  Part of the plan on this day was to go up the spire but by the time we were ready to go it wasn't nice and apparently the view on a clear day is incredible, so you can look forward to those pics. more pics

Typical out Quito scenes.  On the left a empty crate is improvised as a stroller.  Above, Anne gets a shoe shine (she volunteered with alot of these guys last year.
Empty Classroom
If you have ever seen the movie proof of life or any other shots of quito it is highly likely you have seen this before.  It is called the La Virigen del Panecillo and is a landmark wherever you are in the area.
October 20th is a huge election here.  Politics are nuts and here a salsa band entertains the masses in front of San Francisco.
That is all i have time for today!
