It is very difficult to sleep for a long time in Calcutta's summer seaon because it is so hot. That's why I go to swim in the summer. It feels very nice to swim, especially if the water is cold. This time in Calcutta the power cuts were at a maximum. Power cuts mean it will be terribly uncomfortable in the hot, hot season*. After playing for a while my shirt gets drenched from sweat. One night there was still a power cut, so I went to sleep without my shirt on. In the morning I began to sneeze, I found out that I had caught a cold -- OH! What a nuisance! If a storm comes during a power cut it is very pleasing. But then in the stormy weather the windows open and shut by themselves...very noisily.
It isn't that I don't like summer though. In the summer when I see those mountains of watermelons and mangoes in the market, my heart jumps up and down to think of eating them! Moreover, I simply cannot leave out how much I like the long summer vacation we get from school.

* Power cuts, called loadshedding here, are quite common in many parts of Calcutta. Of course, no power means no electricity to make our ceiling fans spin. Then the heat is really on.
Study this and study that
all the time says mom and dad.
No time to play and no time to sing
because the exams are coming in
English is tomorrow and maths is day after
During exams, there is no time for laughter!
To do good in exams I always pray.
But to learn those chapters my hair turns grey.
Those days are gone when we were tension-free
Nowadays even mom and dad
never take us to the sea
Anytime I study I am never in a good mood
But anyhow we study...for our own good
