Welcome to the latest edition of Mango Smiles!
Some of you may be asking why the name of our newsletter didn't change as was suggested in the first one. Well, after all we decided not to change the name at all. Think about it! Isn't "mango Smiles" the perfect name for news coming out of Calcutta? Now the monsoons are in full swing here and sadly ... the end of the mango season is just around the corner!
I'd like to thank all the kids who contributed their ideas to this edition after reading the first one. We have nice stories and reports in this one, including more craft ideas, reports, poems, etc.
Just a bit of news. I will be heading to the United States and Japan for about four months (from mid-July to mid-November) but I will certainly keep in touch. Gautam uncle will go off to work every morning and sometimes be away on weekends but the library will be open some evenings, so be sure to stop by from time to time to get books, meet friends, and read letters from me!! I am hoping to collect some stories, pictures, and other creative works from kids in the US and Japan and to try to publish one more Mango Smiles from abroad.
I am sad to say that I won't be here for the Pujas, the most exciting thing in Calcutta but eat some good treats and send me a letter to tell me what you are up to!! I look forward to doing some Christmas activities with everyone when I get back home in mid-November.
Please send me letters and drawings and all the Vidyasagar Niketan news! I will be staying at my mothers's house(the address is below). I hope you enjoy the new magazine format in this issue.
