Malayalam Varika - Always a Rebel

K W

"Malayalam Varika" (Medam 11, 1173) has a short but precise article on MA.John's unusual political life.

The article browses through the political life of John starting from the founding of KSU (Kerala Students Union) to the current ('forced and sub-dued') status of KPCC Executive member.

"Rebel" may be a correct but at the same time misleading description. In a way, great people were all rebels - they all rebelled against an existing system or dogma - Budha, Christ, Narayana Guru, Gandhi, Martin Luther King... the list is endless. All of them had to face tremedous opposition from the vested interests and except in a few cases they were all persecuted - physically or otherwise.

M.A.John evolved from student leader into a mature thinker and philosopher political figure. In pre-independent era, such a leader would have been known and recognized. The selfishness and deterioration which have set into the political climate of India, todays makes it impossible for such a figure to be appreciated.

We will have the complete translation of the whole article in the coming months. Until then here is the link to the photocopy of the article in Malayalam.
