Kerala Sabdam - Article
In an an open interview to the Malayalam Political Weekly "KeralaSabdam" (The Voice of Kerala) in 1999, John openly exposed the hollowness of the hypothetical 'struggle' within Congress between K.Karunakaran and A.K.Antony. Both these gentlemen have formed groups and created an artificial and bgus 'fight' within the Congress Party in Kerala. The sole purpose of this 'fight' is to keep each other's position safe within the party. A.K.Antony is the biggest 'mask' Congress has seen in Kerala over the last 30 years. 'Mr Clean' have always tried to maquerade a clean image. In reality, Antony (who entered Youth Congress in 1961) and occupied a vacuum created by the suspension of M.A.John from Congress in 1968.
In the years that followed, Antony & Co manipulated a weak KPCC leadership, most notably, KPCC President K.K.Viswanathan to his advantage. Political instability in India and within Congress during Mrs Gandhi Era and afterwards, helped the 'aya rams and gaya rams' to come and go to whatever party and alliance they want. For the last 30 years, AK.Antony cleverly occupied the leadership post in the Congress in one way or the other. Leaving the Chief Ministership to K.Karunakaran, Antony occupied the KPCC leadership too long time. After going out and joining Marxist coalition in Kerala, "Mr Clean" shamelessly came back to Congress when he knew very well that his 'xyz' Congress was going to be wiped out. Today, other Youth Congress fellows whom Antony manipulated in the late 60s and 70s, are sidelined one by one - V.M.Sudheeran and Oommen Chandy, most notable of them.
