FIELD TRIP IDEAS
Tuskegee AL (25 minutes east of Montgomer
y) - George Washington Carver Museum. There are movies about George Washington Carver & Booker T. Washington the founder of the Tuskegee Institute. Also, there are hands on activities available if you call ahead. Free and worth the drive. The campus is a beautiful site.  While you're there, check out  Moton Field. This is where the Tuskegee Airman trained in WWII.

Selma (1 hr west of Montgomery
) - The Battle of Selma. This is a civil war reenactment that takes place in March. Great living history opportunity. $5 per person. http://tourism.selmaalabama.com/attract.htm

W.A. Gayle Planetariu

Ft Toulouse Reenactments - featuring a 1700s French fort reconstruction in a 165-acre park amidst the rural setting at the confluence of the Coosa and Tallapossa Rivers, this National Historic Landmark is home to the William Bartram Arboretum, museum, historic buildings, Indian mound and "living history" reenactments.  Just 10 minutes from downtown Montgomery.  See www.alabamafrontierdays.com

The Pottery Loft Cafe in downtown Montgomery.  Choose a piece of pottery to paint and decorate.  Once your masterpiece is completed, it will be glazed and fired and ready for pick-up in about 2 weeks.  Fees vary.  Special weekend events in October include "Daddy & Me",  "Mommy & Me", and "Family Night".  Call (334) 832-0001
