Hi, and welcome. These are our favourite SMS and GG games with comments, many tips, and little maps.
I've also posted some of the games for downloading in case you'd like to try them. You'll need WinZip to open the files, and you'll need an emulator (such as Meka, for example) to use them. You can find both on a ton of sites on the web. I'm only providing the games.
By the way, rates are made regarding the general quality of Sega Master System and Game Gear games.

Rate : 5 / 10 The purpose of the game is to get to an arcade before it closes at 5.00 pm. You have different tasks to fulfill to get to your goal, and you have to consider the time factor. This is not anything like a GREAT game, but it's a change from the action prequels, this one needing some more brain effort. We like it better on the computer because we can save the game with F5, else it can become really frustrating because you get game over all the time. But that might be precisely what's funny. You can make Alex fall from stairs, get an electric shock, get stuck in some too heavy armor, get sent into his room by his parents, get arrested and put into prison... and even call a pizza! If one of the map pieces is destroyed, you are game over too. Some of the map parts are very difficult to find. In the forest, if you get hit once, you're "game over". In the town, nothing tells of what you should or shouldn't do. You have to try things, but then you might as well get game over, which means you did all that way here for nothing. Rate : 8 / 10 The purpose of this game is to save the world from the evil Janken the Great who wants to... em... I don't remember what he wants to do, but he's a bad guy and you have to defeat him. It's a good action game, quite easy to understand and interesting because of all the options you get with the different items you find in the game. I used to think the bad guys looked sexy. I really have no idea why I thought that way. |

Rate : 4 / 10 I used to spend hours and hours on that game when I was young. I must have had a good reason, but nowadays I just can't get hooked into it anymore. I guess I just don't have time for that kind of games. My daughter likes it though. The purpose of this game is to kill the evil bosses of every level, and at the end, there's supposed to be the Paradise. You can make friends with the enemy by giving them some gold, and you can find various weapons everyone in your team can use. The only thing is, it's hard to handle a team. The music isn't too bad, if you compare with some other games, it's colorful and not too bad. I used to like it a lot. |

Rate : 7 / 10 The purpose of this game is to gather a million dollars in a casino. You can play poker, blackjack, baccarat or use the slot machine. You also have the option of playing a lame pinball game. You can save your game, which is very interesting when you make a mistake, you just reset... which you couldn't do if it was for real. It's easy to use, simple, user-friendly, colorful, and if the music gets on your nerves, turn the sound off. |

Rate : 10 / 10 Yes, you saw well, 10 on 10. I love this game. Fast, cute, simple, easy to play, colorful, great music for the time, really, it's one of the best games for the SMS. The purpose is to kill the evil guys to restore peace to the Fantasy Zone. You also have to gather money to buy better equipments for your ship. There's different strategies to use to kill every type of monster or boss, and once you're done with the level 8, you have more and more levels. You can continue over and over but the game gets harder and harder then. No, sincerely, I always thought that game was great, but even now, I definitely like to play it. It's like a rainbow in the middle of all the totally violent games you find nowadays on the market. They could make 3d versions of this. It could be interesting. This game has potential. |

Rate : 9 / 10 It's a bit subtle why, but I think this one is not as precise and well done as the first one. I still like it a lot, because of the many more possibilities it gives you, with full-access shops, warps, hidden items, etc. You also don't get to a boss just as soon as the level is finished, you get there when YOU feel ready, just knock on the red door. You have a life meter too, which lets you get a few hits before dying, if you get to know where to grow that meter, it's even more interesting... Purpose in this game is to save the Fantasy Zone again, by killing the evil enemies, gaining money to improve your ship equipment, and visiting many more little worlds than in the first one. Opa-Opa is less precise and easy to control, the small wings REALLY suck here, every monster seems faster than you, especially in the beginning or when you just died. Plus, when the screen is filled with monsters, the game slows down. Like it doesn't have enough memory to carry all that people. Music sounds less good than in the original, and the colors are less well chosen. Still a quite great game. |

Rate : 8 / 10 I used to spend a lot of hours on that game. You'll need a map, else it's almost impossible to do. My map is certainly not the best one, and it doesn't tell all, but it can help some. Purpose in this game is to retreive magic items that have been stolen from the king. These items can be found in different places but you have different tasks to do and other items to find before you can reach them. Some items can be used in place of others, and some are necessary to get to where you want. Considering the time for which it was done, it's quite a good game. The main thing is, sometimes perspective kinda sucks. The little character is sometimes hard to control because of that. For example, when you climb stairs, you can't just climb normally, you have to go up, and then right, then up, then right, for every step. Else than that it's a very nice game. Still pleasant to play. I won't go and tell all the locations of the items, this game's short enough already, don't wanna ruin your fun. |

Rate : 8 / 10 This is the best Monopoly game I've found for the consoles I have (SMS, NES and Genesis). The others have more animations but this one's simple to use, user-friendly, very quick too. This is the Monopoly everyone knows, with Reading Railroad, Illinois Avenue and the Boardwalk. 2 to 10 players can play, buy properties, houses, hotels, and try to send everyone else to bankrupt. You can play against the computer. Computer players names are kind of boring though. Like CPU-03 or things like that. And you can't setup the game before starting it. It's the real Monopoly. No cheating. Or maybe some, but I won't tell you how. It's a secret. |

Rate : 4.5 / 10 Interesting little puzzle. The purpose is to bring your egg down to the next level, without breaking it, and quickly enough. Your penguin can jump or eat the square of ice immediately next to his feet. You slide your egg on the ice and make holes with your beak so it can fall down, but don't make it fall from too high! And, of course, don't feed it to the polar bear. Cool, but it gets old quickly, as visually it's kind of repetitive. |

Rate : 11 / 10 My, oh my, there would be so much to say about this classic. THE best game on the Sega Master System. I am totally sold to that serie. Especially this damn old game. The purpose of the game is to save the world from an evil king named Lassic. You'll have to find three friends that will help you in your quest, and various items, some of which are REAL hard to find, when you're alone playing in your livingroom and there's no one to tell you to who you forgot to speak. First time it took me several years to finish the game, just because I couldn't find the Hovercraft. The Hovercraft is a boat you need to find to do like 33% of the game. It wasn't THAT necessary, because the game is finishable without the items you get with the boat, including the mirror shield. But still. And when you don't know... After finding the Hovercraft, it's Lassic that I couldn't find. I couldn't find my way in Baya Malay further than to the Miracle Key, and to the guy that gives you the Crystal. I thought that was all there was in Baya Malay, and I really didn't know where the hell I should use the Prism, the Nuts, and everything. So I tried every little place I could use them, and of course, it never worked. Then one day, a friend told me the solution was in Baya Malay. I was sure it wasn't there, but I decided to make a new map and make sure I go everywhere in Baya Malay. And I finally found my way. Go ahead, laugh at me. I remember betting 50$ with my brother for the first who'd find the Hovercraft, and I never had to pay anything, because he couldn't find it either. |

Rate : 7 / 10 It's not a bad game, easy to play, nice, colorful, music not bad, but it's really nothing special. You don't get addicted to this. You kill evil guys to get keys to get to the next level. You have to get some items (stars) before you finish each level else you'll have to repeat levels. You can become of higher army rank by killing a lot of monsters and getting the little hem, flower? that appears after you killed it. When you're of higher rank, you are stronger in your attack. You can play as being two, the two play at the same time, one plays Mary, and the other plays Edger. If you play alone you're Mary. |

Rate : 2 / 10 Arghhh stupid game!!! For Ren & Stimpy fans only, and even then. Try the game on Genesis instead. This one is a real loss of time. We have it because my kid likes it. I really don't see why. The purpose is to cross forests and other environments to finally find some yak they're running after. Do I really have to continue? |

Rate : 8 / 10 Good puzzle, you have to remove tiles by pairs. You can remove a tile if it's not blocked by another tile either to the left or to the right. A pair is either two tiles that look alike, or two seasons, or two flowers. Nice, simple, quick and easy to play. You don't really have a time limit. This version is hard because you can't cheat and shuffle tiles, when it doesn't work, it doesn't work. If you finish the whole pile you get a nice picture of a dragon. Music sucks on my machine because it plays too fast, but you can turn it off in the game. |

Rate : 3 / 10 I remember spending a lot of time on this game. I just can't get into in anymore now. The purpose is, of course, to make the best match possible. You play against the computer. One or two players. A nice simple little tennis game for when you have time for that. |

3 / 10 Lame little game in which everything looks alike and goes way too fast. I might be getting old but damn! I have no time for this kind of stress! And visually it's so repetitive. The purpose is to kill beasts with your little toygun, and eat them after they've been turned into small balls. Fast, because you play against time. Not much of time. And you get bonus rounds in which you can get shoes, beer, and all kinds of wonderful things like that for Teddy Boy. It's kind of childish in the look, music and everything else, especially when you're game over. That's not a problem, can make it look cute, my daughter likes it a lot. But it really goes way too fast for me. |

Rate : 7.5 / 10 Interesting game, some gorgeous pictures, but so, so, so complicated. You do it once, and you finish it, and it takes forever, and you don't wanna know about it anymore after that. It's all about being good or evil. The game decides of the worth of your honesty, generosity, courage, etc, and you have to gain the game's favors to be worthy in a total of 8 virtues. You get that with every good or bad action you do. Good actions make your virtues raise a little, bad ones make them drop down real fast. You have items to find, places to go, some monsters to kill to show your strength in battle, monsters you can't kill because they're not evil creatures, and if you kill them you lose virtue. Surprisingly enough, the purpose is not to kill an ultimate evil, at the end you have to answer some questions and if you do it properly, you win. Those questions are about things and codes you have to find in the game. Associations between items you find, that you can get to know by talking to people. But here again, be careful about how you speak to everyone. Your answers also have an effect on your virtues. You can move faster from a place to another if you use some portals that appear with the moons. There's two moons, and they don't change at the same rhythm. 8 / 10 Interesting little game on which one can spend a lot of time. The purpose here is to save your girlfriend from a ultimate evil. Of course, you meet many big evil guys before you can just have a look at that ultimate guy. There's items to collect too, which will either just help, either be necessary to finish the game. This is one of the first games we've had on the SMS, my brother and I. I really spent a lot of time on this, and finished it with and without the dolls. With and without cheating codes. A good one. Nothing like a Great Game, but a good little game. |

Rate : 8.5 / 10 Another interesting little game. I find it more interesting that the first one because it holds much more possibilities regarding items and places. Visually its more various. The purpose is to destroy a ultimate evil, a dragon, but you have quite a way to do to get there, and many items to find. And the last castle is a labyrinth, and it can be real frustrating. When you get there, you'll see why. My daughter and I really like this game. Colorful, nice, easy to control and to play, not too easy in itself as some parts can be real hard. It's a good game to have. |

Rate : 7 / 10 Much less interesting than the others, even if it seems to provide more possibilities. I don't know, I just don't think this is as good as the other ones. You still have a revenge to take on your good old dragon, because he cast a spell on you. You change morphology during your trip, you get to be a Dragon, a Mouse, a Piranha, a Lion and even a Bird. It's kinda funny. But not for Wonder Boy. He goes on this quest to get the item that will bring him to his original form. That item is the Salamander Cross, which, of course, is owned by the ultimate dragon you'll meet. Visually, I don't like that one as much as the others. The controls are also different, and the music and sound effects real suck. But overall it's still a very cool game. |

Rate : 5.5 / 10 Interesting game. It's a little like the Battleship you play at home against the family and friends, but with some more possibilities. The purpose is to seek and destroy the fleet of your enemy before he finds and destroys yours. Visually the game kinda sucks, and the way a boat sinks is just too long and nothing interesting, they all look alike then. That can get on the nerves. But if you forget about that, it can be a good game, once in a while. |

Rate : 8 / 10 Interesting little game. Funny in a cruel way. The purpose is to bring all your Lemmings home. There's all kind of tricks they can do to make their way, and you have to use these options properly so you can save as many of them as possible. Sometimes they die, but there's always more and more cute and funny little Lemmings all ready to serve you and die for you. George and Saddam should play this once in a while, if they like so much to see people die. It would be harmless then, and they could do it over and over. |

Rate : ?? I didn't really take the time to play this. So I still don't understand it. I'm still not sure how to make my way in it. Means it's probably not that easy to play. My daughter can't play it at all. Too complicated already. Seems gorgeous though. I never really went far in the game, so I know nothing about it. Therefore I can't give you maps or any type of clue. |

Rate : 8 / 10 It's a Shining Force, and like all Shining Force games, it's great. But limitations of the Game Gear show as it's much less interesting than the ones on Genesis as you do battle after battle, with very short bits of a story in between. You can't walk from a city to another. Makes the game much more simple, but with much less possibilities. I felt a bit stuck, and I didn't like the fact that I had no freedom of movement. Purpose is to defeat a ultimate evil, like in most RPG's. You can pick which characters you keep in your team, like in other Shining Force games. If you really like their battles, you'll love this game, because you get them all the time. The story is interesting, and the evil guys look cool too. Some of your friends are funny. It's a nice little RPG for Game Gear. Makes you want to buy a Game Gear just for that. |
