Phantasy Star Tips & - - - Walkthrough - - - You start in the city of Camineett, near Alis' house. First thing to know and do, whenever you do an important task in the game, SAVE as soon and as often as you can. Just to make sure the last 3-4 hours spent on the game weren't for nothing. Also, when you're not sure your party is strong enough to do a task, don't hesitate, turn back home and come here when you're ready instead of going to a certain death. Whenever you're in a city, make sure you visit all houses and talk to everyone. Whenever someone mentions an item, it means you'll need it in your quest. If someone mentions a place, you'll need to go there. So it's important to speak to everyone and TRY all types of answers as we're not in Ultima IV and you won't lose anything for wrong answers. Some people will ask you a cola before speaking to you, and some of them have vital informations for your journey. So make sure you always have a cola or two with you. In Camineet, you have a woman ready to heal you for free. Remember where her house is and go there as much as you can insteand of spending your precious meseta on something you could get for free. There's one other place where you can get healed for free but you won't get there until further in the game (a little hotel near Mota's Governor). - - - Now in Camineet you have a warehoouse where you can get some - - - money. Go there and get it, it's easy. And it's your first - - - experience with the 3D dungeons. - - - The first task you have to do is getting a Roadpass to go to - - - the next planet, Motavia. You'll need 200 meseta to buy the - - - Roadpass at the port city of Scioon (on Palma, to the right from - - - Camineet) - - - After you have your Roadpass, youu'll need a Passport, so you'll - - - have to gather another 100 mesetaa. Before buying the Roadpass and Passport, I'd suggest to already get the best armor you can around here. You have three cities, one for shields, one for armors and one for weapons. Be patient and save your meseta to get the best from each. First, kill only Swarms, and you can try one Scorpion. If you meet two Scorpions, run. In a few levels, you'll be able to take them on. Don't go too far from the residential area, and especially, don't go for a walk on the beach. D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S. I always stay near the surrounding wall in the beginning of the game. There's a cave a little to the south. Get a flash and go visit it if you like. You'll find a statue of a man. In fact, it's your friend Odin that your brother sent you to find, but he has been turned to stone! What will we do with this?? Get out of here for now and go back to Camineet. Learn to make your own maps on squared paper. It's a lot of work, but you'll be so much happier when you're done with the game, if you did it all by yourself. Else you can always get Phantasy Star maps on a lot of sites on the web. Makes your game faster and easier. One day I might post my own maps on this site for you to download... Once you're dressed in the best possible suit of armor and carry the best shield and wield the best weapon, you should be in advance of a couple levels. The game will be easier to start. In the shops you have no way of knowing which weapon or armor you may or may not use. This can be very annoying. This is why I'm putting here a list of what they can and cannot use... Alis Any Sword Woodcane, Wand Leather Armor, Light Suit, Zirconian Armor, Diamond Armor. Leather Shield, Ceramic Shield, Laser Shield, Laconian Shield. Myau Any Fang Thick Fur Glove Odin Any Sword, Axe or Gun Woodcane, Wand Any Armor Any Shield Noah Short Sword Woodcane, Wand Any Mantle Laser Shield - - - Now you are dressed to kill, and ready to leave for Motavia. Are - - - you sure you spoke to everyone? IIf so, you should have a - - - Laconian Pot in your possession. You'll need it on Motavia. - - - First, to get the Roadpass you'lll need to just cross the guards - - - at Camineet, go to Scion (port toown), and to the Second-Hand - - - shop. There is an item named "Seccrets". Try to buy it, get out - - - and try again until you get the RRoadpass. - - - Return to Camineet and pass the gguards. You'll get to the - - - Spaceport. Two shops there : one where you can buy food if you - - - still haven't done it, and one whhere you can file for a Passport. - - - Answer "No" to both questions andd you'll get it. Food... Very important items indeed. Cola and Burgers. They are used to refill your hit points, because you'll lose lots of them in battle. Cola is worth 10 hit points, and Burger 40. Which is not much, but it's all you have. Another thing, magic. Alis, Myau and Noah can use magic, in and out of battle. Here's a list. Alis - - - HEAL : in and out of battle. Refills 20 hit points FLY : out of battle. Lets you get automatically back to a town BYE : in battle. Lets you flee CHAT : in battle. You can speak to some monsters with it FIRE : in battle. Does little damage to monsters ROPE : in battle. Ties monsters so they can't move for a while Myau - - - CURE : in and out of battle. Refills 80 hit points TRAP : out of battle. Disarms traps in chests and dungeons EXIT : out of battle. Gets you automatically out of a dungeon TERR : in battle. It's supposed to scare the monster. I never found it really did anything. WALL : in battle. Raises a protective magic wall for a while HELP : Supposed to boost the attack of somebody Odin - - - has no magic Noah - - - CURE : out of battle. Refills 80 hit points EXIT : out of battle. Gets you automatically out of a dungeon TELE : in and out of battle. You speak with monsters with it. I don't have a clue what it can do out of battle. OPEN : out of battle. Opens doors shut with magic RISE : out of battle. Brings one back from death FIRE : in battle. Does some damage to monsters WIND : in battle. Does more damage to monsters than Fire PROT : in battle. Raises a protective magic wall for a while THUN : in battle. Does more damage to monsters than Wind - - - Once you have your Passport, you can pass the guards to the - - - Space shuttles and then - bye, byye! - ready for Motavia. - - - Once on Motavia you'll get to a ccity named Paseo. The governor - - - lives there but you can't meet hiim yet. You'll need to give him - - - a shortcake to talk to him... - - - Talk to everyone in Paseo. You shhould get to meet your first pal - - - here, Myau, and he has the solutiion for saving Odin from Medusa's - - - curse (if you went in the cave soouth of Camineet you saw him, he - - - was turned to stone). - - - Bring Myau with you and go back oon Palma for now. Or, if you'd - - - like to, gather some money here tto improve your weapons and armor - - - and Myau's. You'll see a very cossty armor here. Don't worry, the - - - armors you'll find won't cost as much, plus you don't need that - - - one just yet. You can even wait ttil near end of the game to buy - - - it. It's the strongest armor for Alis in the whole game. - - - Back on Palma, let's get another Flash and go save Odin! Or you - - - can gather 1400 meseta and get yoourself the MagicLamp that will - - - guide you for the rest of your daays. It's in Parolit, the city - - - near Camineet in the same residenntial area. - - - Now that you have some sort of liight, get to the cave to the - - - south where you first met Odin, tturned to stone. With Myau's - - - Alsulin, you can turn him back too flesh and now you're 3. - - - Odin tells you of Medusa and her Laconian Axe. You'll have to - - - defeat Medusa and grab the Laconiian Axe much later in the game. - - - Odin also tells you about a compaass that he saw in the cave. Find - - - the compass, because you'll need it to continue your quest. - - - For now, you can go get the shorttcake for our beloved governor. - - - You'll need to talk to the governnor to get your last pal, Noah. - - - The shortcake can be found in somme shop in a maze on Palma. While - - - gathering gold for your armors eaarlier (and did you do that for - - - Odin too? he too needs good weapoons and armor...), maybe you saw - - - a cave to the north of Scion... YYou see a big tower surrounded - - - with a wall. That's Baya Malay. YYou can't get here as the door is - - - shut by magic. Follow the wall too the north, you can pass. - - - Further north you'll see a cave. Shortcake is there. But, oh-oh, - - - the door is locked. What will we do? - - - Now that you have the compass, goo back near scion and continue - - - south. The forest through which yyou couldn't pass earlier is - - - not anymore a problem, and you reeach a little town. There you'll - - - learn about the Dungeon Key. Go bback to Camineet, get back - - - in the warehouse where you found some money at the beginning and - - - you should find the Dungeon Key. - - - There is another cave where you hhave a locked door, far on the - - - peninsula east from Camineet, wheere you can find stronger - - - monsters such as Skeletons... Welll, monsters there aren't - - - stronger for nothing. Don't get iin here just yet or you will all - - - die. And don't get here without MMyau having Trap & Exit spells, - - - or you might as well all die too in this place full of traps. - - - Let's get back to that cave to thhe north of Scion. With some sort - - - of light, of course. Find your waay there to the Shortcake, the - - - man in the shop will ask for 10000 meseta, but the real cost is - - - less than 300. If Myau has EXIT, you don't have to do all the way - - - out. - - - That cave on the peninsula could be a place to visit sooner - - - or later, as it contains a good wweapon for Myau. You can come - - - here now if you feel strong enouggh, or you can go later. - - - Back to Motavia with the governorr's cake. You can now talk to - - - him. He'll give you a letter to bbring to Noah, your 4th comrade. - - - But get some sleep for now. Theree's a demon in your dream, it's - - - an interesting fight if you're sttrong enough. If not, don't - - - use all your Burgers on that fighht, it's in vain, it's just a - - - dream. If you die here you will jjust wake up. Now that you gave him his cake, the Governor will talk to you whenever you want. It's not like he'll have a lot to say, BUT, the hotel aside of his house is THE place where you can be healed for free on Motavia. - - - Now you can leave for Noah's cavee, on Motavia. Bring lots of - - - food. Monsters here are a bit strronger, and their chests tend - - - to be very fertile for traps. Briing of course some light. There's rich monsters here. The Barbrians. They're friendly, so it might feel cruel to attack them, since you can avoid fighting if you talk to them. But... lots of money there. Be careful if you attack them though, because they're tough, especially at this point of the game. They also carry cola, which can be of a little help. Once again, it's between you and your conscience. The game won't penalize you for this in any way. - - - Find your way to Noah, give him tthe letter, and he'll tell you - - - of a tunnel in the spaceport on PPalma. You can now reach Gothic - - - village and Gothic Forest. It's uunder that yellow round you might - - - have seen earlier, wondering whatt it was. On many walkthroughs, people seem to think Noah is a woman, but he is definitely a man. The same guy as Lutz in PS2 and Rune in PS4. - - - In the town of Gothic, you'll meeet the first people who'll ask - - - you for cola (they look like Jesuus). They'll tell you of a man - - - named DrLuveno. That scientist caan build you a spaceship. You - - - never asked for a spaceship, did you? But seems like you'll need - - - one. What will we do with it?? Buut first, where is DrLuveno?? - - - Out of town, there's a forest witth mountains all over. Two ways - - - are offered to you. One will leadd you to a sure death if you get - - - to Medusa's Tower. Powerful monstters dwell here, waiting for - - - you. There's another building whiich looks more like a prison. It - - - is a prison. Your scientist is heere. Plus lots of people who'll - - - talk to you in exchange for cola.. Talk to your doctor, then go - - - back to the town of Gothic and doon't worry about him, he'll find - - - his way. Means he didn't even neeed you to get out of there all - - - that time... anyway. - - - Now, in the passage between Palmaa's spaceport and Gothic, there - - - was a break you could follow to aa room where a busy person was. - - - This is DrLuveno's assistant, andd your scientist will need that - - - guy now. Then you'll need to pay a little fee for the ship. And - - - then you'll have to wait a littlee. If you visit Luveno over and - - - over, he'll end out being done wiith your ship. Thanks, sir! - - - Now what will we do with this? Yoou need a driver. Hapsby is a - - - driver. Who is Hapsby? A robot whho has been made (probably by - - - your dear scientist, who else) too be a pilot. You'll need to - - - find Hapsby, but to get Hapsby, yyou'll need a stuff called - - - Polymeteral. - - - From Gothic, do all the way arounnd the mountain to the other side - - - where you'll see a cave (lava aroound here. Lava is - - - nothing. Just walk in it, you'll lose some points but not much) - - - There's a town in ruins where youu'll find a lot of garbage. - - - Hapsby is somewhere in the garbagge, as the man there will tell - - - you. And you'll need Polymeteral to save your robot from being - - - anymore a part of the dump. In PS2, this became Roron, because Motavians really loved the idea and decided to try it on their own planet. - - - Get in the cave (see, I hope you have the magic lamp by now else - - - it'll cost you in Flashes). You'lll exit on the other side of the - - - lake, on another part of land. - - - Strong monsters here. And you'll have to walk on the beach for - - - quite a while, to make your way tto your precious Polymeteral. - - - You'll see a town, where you can stop if you need some resting, - - - but you'll find your item furtherr in a city called Abion. - - - Finally in Abion, you'll see storres with nice new things, but - - - Polymeteral is not free either. SSo make it your priority. - - - You'll only need it once in the ggame so you'll only need one. - - - You might meet a mad Doctor on yoour way, if you do your lessons - - - well and visit everything. Don't give him Myau, he'll just kill - - - him. Defeat that Bozo and you'll get back your Laconian Pot. - - - If the new shops hit your eye, geet some money by killing some - - - monsters in the abouts, and purchhase whatever you want. Then - - - let's get back to the garbage dummp. - - - Means, we do all the way back on the beach and in the cave. Back - - - in the little village (Bortevo), try all the garbage piles and - - - you'll finally meet Hapsby. He's going to be with you forever. - - - Back to Luveno's mansion. Now thaat you have Hapsby, you can have - - - your ship, and use it!!! We will travel, hurray!!! Hmm, not too - - - fast, there's only three places HHapsby knows, and it's the three - - - planets of the Algo star system, Palma, Mota and Dezo. - - - Forget Dezo for now, as it's the hardest of the three. You can - - - head for Uzo on Mota, since theree's nothing more on Palma... - - - except Baya Malay, and Medusa's TTower. Keep them for later. Uzo... a town, but in PS2, it became an island full of monsters... They probably made a mistake between Uzo and the little island where we can find the Mirror Shield. Or maybe they meant Casba. That cave with the dragon. Anyway, let's continue... - - - In Uzo, talk to everyone. You'll learn about the Flute. Some guy - - - has buried the Flute in a deadendd in the town of Gothic. - - - Back to Gothic, on Palma, get to the dead-end where there's a - - - tree, search, and you'll find thee Flute. That item is magic and - - - it will get you out of any maze iin a second, just like Myau and - - - Noah's EXIT spell. And it can be used as many times as you want. - - - Get back to Uzo on Mota and go soouth. You'll need a vehicle - - - called "LandRover" to continue yoour quest. The LandRover can - - - pass through Ant Lions. You can gget the vehicle from the town - - - you'll see south of Uzo. Get in tthe cave. You might meet a strong - - - opponent here. Defeat it and you''ll get a gem. Keep that. - - - The town is named Casba. You can get your LandRover here if you - - - have enough money. Else you have a little spot around the city - - - where you can meet monsters. - - - Someone will tell you about some other item. Go and get it. - - - With the other item, you can get more items, like the Gas - - - Shield (on Palma, which you'll neeed to have clues for how to find - - - the Mirror Shield), the Mirror Shhield (on Mota) and the - - - Laconian Sword (on Palma, but donn't go for this until late in - - - the game, monsters are strong herre). - - - Go and get the Gas Shield, it's iin a dungeon in a city on an - - - island in the lake on Palma, souttheast of Scion. See a tower? - - - it's not there, that tower is forr the Laconian Sword. Search - - - south, until you find a city thatt looks like Camineet, but on - - - a glass platform. - - - Once you have the Gas Shield, youu will be able to cross the - - - Poisonous Gas on Mota (green areaa), and reach a town where - - - they'll tell you about the Mirrorr Shield if you give them money. Gas... in PS2, there's that kind of gas but it's on Dezo... - - - Go and find the shield, you'll neeed it against Medusa later. - - - Give the Mirror Shield to Odin. YYou'll need the LandRover because - - - the island on which you'll find tthe shield is near Paseo and - - - now you need to cross Ant Lions tto reach Paseo. And what about the spaceport?? Well, since you have your own vehicle, the spaceport is going to be closed. And if you don't want to lose your passport for free, sell it before it gets confiscated by the guards. - - - Before we leave Motavia... There''s a place where you can find a - - - better armor for Noah. Explore Moota with the LandRover and you - - - should come to a cave you have neever seen. Make your way inside - - - and you shall encounter Noah's unncle, who'll want a duel with - - - Noah. If you win, you can have thhe Frad Mantle. - - - Ok now we have the Gas Shield andd Odin has his Mirror Shield. - - - You can do Medusa's Tower now or later. Anyway, it's time to go - - - back on Palma. - - - If you decide to do the Tower noww, it's on Palma, near Gothic, - - - you might have seen it earlier whhen you went to get DrLuveno. - - - Medusa is at the top of the Towerr. You'll meet powerful monsters - - - here, and make lots of experiencee and money. So it might be a - - - good idea to go there now. Make yyour way to Medusa, kill her, - - - and you'll get the Laconian Axe! - - - Why not go for the Laconian Swordd?? It's on that Island you saw - - - (did you?) earlier east of Scion.. The Tower. Make your way - - - through the biggies here and get your grip on the holy blade! - - - Out of this planet for now, even if Noah has "Open", it's not - - - time for Baya Malay yet. And therre's nothing more on Palma. - - - Time to go to Dezo. In Dezoris, you have to make your way through mazes on the planet, because their world is buried under snow and ice. You might meet Dezorians here, and Evilheads. Those people can be friendly if you talk to them, but they can provide you with some meseta if you fight them. - - - On Dezo, you can buy new weapons if you'd like, in the city of - - - Skure. Then use the tunnels one aafter the other until you get - - - out from a tunnel and can choose to go to the left or to the - - - right. Go to the right for now. CCross another tunnel and you'll - - - get to a town with native Dezoriaans. The right half of the town - - - contains only liars. Talk to the people of the left half, those - - - with the strange Z when they speaak. Those say the truth. There - - - you can buy the Icedigger, an iteem you'll need to find other - - - items you'll need to finish the ggame. - - - Return to your tunnels, back likee if you wanted to go back to - - - your spaceship, but when you are at a place where there seems to - - - be a dead-end to the left, use yoour Ice-Digger there going south. - - - There you should be able to find your way to a sort of strange - - - forest with a lone tree in the miiddle. That's the Laerma Tree. - - - In the Laerma Tree, there is Laerrma Nuts, but you'll need the - - - Torch to get them. So let's leavee this place for now. Just - - - remember where it is for later. - - - Back to where you had to choose bbetween the left or right. If you - - - go to the left, the west if you pprefer, then south, with the - - - IceDigger, you might get to a walll of ice you can cross with the - - - vehicle. Go there, south, then weest, search around until you - - - reach a small area with a cave. TThat's the cave where you'll - - - find the Aeroprism. - - - Find your way in the cave to the prism (guarded by a Titan). Get - - - out. Now get back out of this litttle zone from where you came. - - - instead of going in the snow, go north, until you see a place - - - that looks like the prison on Pallma. Get in there, that's Guaron - - - Morgue. Zombies here. You'll findd the Laconian Armor here, - - - but beware of traps. - - - Out of this place, you can get baack to a town to restore your - - - hit points. After that, Get back to the zone where you can - - - go to the left or the right, and go to the left, but not to the - - - north. You'll find one more tunneel. Take it. - - - On the other side of the tunnel, you'll get in an area filled - - - with strong monsters like Mammothh. I hope your team is strong, - - - and that you're fully healed. If you go west, until about the - - - middle of the area, and then you go north, you'll see a tower. - - - Gumbious Tower (Corona Tower). - - - Find your way to the Dezorian whoo'll give you the Torch in - - - exchange for the Gem you got fromm the dragon in the Casba Cave. - - - (Remember the cave near the town where you got the LandRover?) - - - Remember what I told you about thhe Laerma Tree? Time to go there - - - now. - - - Do all the way to the east, take the tunnel, go to the east - - - until you see the tunnel in the ppassage, take that tunnel, - - - until you reach that place with tthe "dead-end". Make your way - - - to the tree and use the Torch. Yoou can put the Nuts in your - - - Laconian Pot. - - - Now, we're going back to the westt again, to Mammoth Kingdom. - - - So you take back the tunnel, untiil you are in the passage - - - where you can go west or east, goo west, take the tunnel, - - - go west, west, west until you seee a cave. Go there. The Dezorian - - - is a liar, do the opposite of whaat he says. Find your way to the - - - Laconian Shield and let's get outt of this planet. Now you should have all the best weapons and armor for everyone, Laconian Sword, Diamond Armor and Laconian Shield for Alis, Laconian Axe, Laconian Armor and Mirror Shield for Odin Silver Fang, Thick Fur and Glove for Myau Wand, Frad Mantle and Laser Shield for Noah. Ok here's a little trick, you might want to follow it or not... The laser gun will never miss. But it shoots only 20. The Laconian Axe may miss, may attack high or low regarding the enemy's speed to avoid it and defense. Everyone seems to think the best weapon against the big bosses is the Axe, but I've always prefered the Laser Gun, because that way you can make sure your monster will lose at least 20. Which is not always the case with the Axe. Yes, even at +80. But this is all up to you. - - - Time to go back to Mota and get tthe Diamond Armor if you still - - - don't have it. In Paseo. After thhat, it's going to be time for... - - - Baya Malay. - - - Go to the Gate and have Noah do ""Open", it's the only way you can - - - get in here for now. What you'll find : - - - The Miracle Key, the key that opeens all doors shut by magic. I'd - - - suggest you to get out of Baya Maalay once you have it, and get - - - back in, because that way you wonn't lose the magic points Noah - - - has to use for "Open". - - - The Crystal. On one side of the ttower, you'll meet Damor, - - - Soothsayer. Answer his questions right and he'll give you the - - - crystal which will protect you frrom evil magic. - - - The Top of the Tower.
