This old map of Rodington in Shropshire, show a number of key features particular to Rodington Village: the Old Windmill, the Church, the School, the Foot Bridge,  the Old Clay Pit, and the Aqueduct.

Robert Madeley would have been to all these places as he grew up. Everyone in the village would have known Robert - the son of the Joshua Madeley - the bricklayer and building contractor.

The Canal was a major feature of the village as it carried the goods and people to and from Rodington. The Aqueduct carried the canal over the River Roden.

Although the Aqueduct was demolished in the 1970s by the parish council and the canal filled in, the scene of all these historic icons still exist and can be seen by visitors to Rodington Village today.

There used to be a building called Rodington Hall until it burnt down. It is not shown on this map but you can visit it above.

The Shropshire Union Canal waterway and the River Roden crossed in Rodington Village - one a directed and a contained flow, and the other one natural but always liable to flooding.
