1901 Census - Shrewsbury

1901 Shrewsbury Census Extract - 41 High Street Shrewsbury

In 1901 Robert Madeley was single and aged 22. Robert was already the High Street butcher and he was an employer. He lived and worked at 41 High Street Shrewsbury, sharing the building with John Butler and his family. John Butler was a manager in the leather trade.

The future wife of Robert, Ida Ellen Key, also lived in Shrewsbury in 1901.

Ida was single and 23 and worked as parlour maid in a rather large house called Whitehall. It is now known as Whitehall Mansion.

Whitehall was down the hill from Robert and his butchers shop, and across the River Severn in Monkmoor parish.

Also at the house with Ida was Emily Tams the cook, and Sarah Rogers the housemaid.

They all worked for Willam Kynnersley and his daughter Ida.

The building is protected by Grade II listing.
