This was another day fishing. We we several miles offshore when the wind picked up to 20 knots or so, blowing offshore. On the way in, this goldfinch flew onto my friend's shoulder. He stayed there until we got to within a 1/2 mile of land. He then took off and flew to shore. I think he was just tired of flying against the wind and hitched a ride until we got close enough to shore.

I didn't read about your digital techniques in your explanation. If this  is
a straight forward photo without any digital editing, it doesn't mean much
to me. I'm in this Circuit to learn how to alter a photographic image on the computer.

This was certainly an unusual occurrence. Why not add some yellow to the bird to show that it is a

This was  an unusual occurrence.
Suggestion:
Add some drama in the sky, you can use KPT6
for adding sky effects,

enhance the color of bird burn corner of the picture and use stamp pad tool for clone the white area on the right of the picture .

I copied this and cut the picture down about l/2 runf bird and face ands use levels to go into dark area and it seemed to read better,  normally would have used fill-in flash but perhaps it would have been difficult here.

There is a big message in this image about human beings, other creatures and the nature in general. How they should and can live together without conflicts, supporting each other instead of making use of each other. We must be greatful to Bob for showing this to us.

Shure, there are many ways to improve the image and Bob will develope his skills and help an image like that to be even more of impact.

Here are a few humble suggestions:

- darken the sky to make it even more stormy

- ask yourself how stormy it was and adjust your horizon according to the weather: either straight or even more on one side.

- enhance the colors and clean up a little bit the eyewhites.

- adjust brightness, especially in the shadowside of the face.

-think about cropping it into a panorama. There is little (better. no) information in the empty sky and the sweater.

BIOGRAPHY

I live in Allentown, Pennsylvania and own a small business, R.S. Quality
Products, Inc. We sell sanitary, color-coded cleaning tools, brushes,
scrapers and so on, primarily to food processors and pharmaceutical firms.
About two years ago I decided to update our web site,
http://www.rsquality.com/, from a strictly informational site to an
e-commerce site. This involved a lot of new images so I bought a digital
camera, a mid level Canon, and took most of the images on our web site.
That was the first time I've owned a camera of any type (I've never owned a
film type camera). I found I enjoyed using the digital camera, and began
taking pictures while partaking in a couple of my hobbies; fishing and
gardening. My purpose in joining PSA was just to learn how to take better
images and how to improve them with software. This is strictly a hobby for
me, but I'd like to become a talented amateur.
I work primarily with two PC's, a Gateway Windows 2000 notebook with
Pentium III 800, 256 RAM, 20gig hard drive, and an NT desktop 450 Pentium
III, 384 RAM, with a couple of large hard drives. Both have internal CD
burners. The notebook networks with both the home NT system and the PC's at
the office. My current camera is a Canon  Power Shot G1. I use Photoshop
6.0, but only know the very basics.
