WEBCAMS:

Here I'll demonstrate a few ways I've communicated with people,
while broadcasting my image, over the past few years.
I've become quite the "web animal", whether it be for better or
worse, a good deal of my socializing now, is thru the web.
(of course all of these examples will require you to
use a java-capable browser...)

In my home I have several computers, in different rooms, and each has attached to it,
a webcam of some sort. I prefer using 3Com/US Robotics "Home Connect" USB cams,
but have used others, including those which plug into a printer port (QuickCam), and
others by 3Com, which employ a video capture card...   I've even taken my old VHS
camcorder from the '80s, run it thru a PC, for an updating "Fish/Aquarium Cam".

I enjoy having my home wired with webcams, having the ability to broadcast,
from my home, whenever, and whatever, the danged heck I feel like. Its not unlike
having a TV studio in my living room, where I am the star, and the content being of
my own design. I've done this now, for over 21/2 years. With my cams & chatboxes,
I've met countless 100s if not 1000s of people, from all over the world,
in the safety of my 2 bedroom walk-up apartment..

On another site I'd maintained for a couple years, I used an updating cam page
w/ a floating chatbox, in which I moderated my own "chat room", with often
as many as 60 people or so in the room, at any given time.

Please click here for Example 1.

For over a year, I've maintained a close friendship with a young man in France, and
for us to have private chat, and be able to see each other, I'd created a 2-framed page
which had 30-second updating webcam pics, and a private chatbox.
The pics in the top frame refreshed every 30 seconds (we'd each upload pics from
our cams onto my server), while the chat frame below remained static, working normally.
I made the pics "e-mail links", so we could send each other mail, attachments, etc...,
as we visited. It worked very well. (I enjoy finding solutions to my ideas, thru HTML, & the internet!)

Please click the example below.

PRIVATE CAM/CHAT
(We each had our monitors set to 1040x768 or better, the page wasn't
designed for smaller resolution, although, could be.)

Besides the 2 examples above, I've also had several variations on the same theme.
Cam-pages that used larger images, smaller images..., with varying refresh rates.
Smaller images load faster of course, large ones need a slightly slower refresh rate.
I've even had small pop-up windows with little frames in them, housing both
live-chat and updating cams!   I've also linked my cams to pages on other sites
with streaming media..., but am not doing so for these simple test pages.
