CHAT:

Here I'll demonstrate a couple ways I've chatted with people
over the past few years. I've become quite the "web animal", whether
it be for better or worse, a good deal of my socializing now, is thru
the web.   (of course all of these examples will require you
to use a java-capable browser...)

First, I'll show you an example of a page I created quite some time ago, complete
with a chatbox, and a list of all the available commands. Commands for the users, and
commands for the moderator. The chatbox is free from SPIN COMMUNICATIONS,
and uses a couple lines of configurable code, ie, for chatbox size, fonts,
background color, room name, etc...

Please click here for Example 1.

On another site I'd maintained for several years, I used an updating cam page
(as demonstrated on the WEBCAM links in this test site) with a floating chatbox, in which
I moderated my own "chat room", with quite often, as many as 60 people or so in it,
at any given time. It was through a (java) chat boxlike the one below.
Press button below to open the ICE/SPIN© WebChat window!

It may take a minute or 2 for the chat panel to load. Please be patient.

I had a very close friendship with a young man in France, and in order for us to
chat privately, and be able to see each other, I created a page which had 30-second
updating cam pics, & a private chatbox. We'd tried other ways, like MS
NetMeeting, but that didn't allow us to save each other's pics...
My solution... The pics in the top frame (of the page I'd created) refreshed,
every 30 seconds, while the chat frame below..., remained static, working normally.
It functioned very well. (I enjoy finding solutions to my ideas, thru HTML, and the internet!)
We used a private room named "Turnips", although I could easily open the room
to anyone, with a simple change in the code, and a quick refresh...

TURNIPS CHAT
(We each had our monitors set to 1040x768 or better, the page wasn't
designed for smaller resolution, although, could be.)

Another nice one, also from SPIN, can be placed directly on your page, but
isn't configurable. You may only configure the "style" of the chat-box, and whether
you want the chat to be private, or public..., when you first obtain the code.

I have tried several different chat solutions over the past few years,
but most of them want money..., and while the SPIN chat is free, very few seem
to work quite as well, as the SPIN chat..., for my purposes...
